im thinking of changing my darts.

now im no Phil Taylor to begin with but ive always felt my fingers just werent suited to my current set of darts (3 years).

im just wondering what peoples opinions are on dart shape. is the dart shape as important as im allowing myself to think. Or is it a case of "a bad workman always blames his tools"

now i dont expect to be any better if i get new darts. but i just want the dart to feel a lot more comfortable in my hand.

    thoughts?

if the darts dont feel right in your hand you'll always be conscious of it and it will start putting you off your game, when you get a set you feel comfortable with you will see your game improve, what darts are you throwing with at the moment>

Like most gullible goons i have 24 gram unicorn purists, the old Phil Taylor ones

I've been "analysing" my grip the past while and I think I need something with a contoured shape.

I personally think none of the other unicorn darts will do, as besides the sigma ones, everything else seems based on the old Taylor Purists, which I already throw

I saw the Mervyn King winmau ones on the internet earlier on. They seem to have a funny shaped barrel that should suit my grip, but I want to try them first I reckon

Years ago i changed my darts, not because they felt uncomfortable but because every second night i was holding them in a different place , front of barrell one night and near the back the next,it let to inconsistency and too many thoughts about where i should be holding them.
i ended up buying a set of John Lowe unicorn darts, because they are so short you dont have much of a choice only where to hold them,i can say they have definately improved my game.
dont be afraid to change your darts or experiment with them or the flights and shafts, there are thousands of options available, and throwing a dart that doesnt feel comfortable shouldnt really be an option.

this is my main thing exactly!!!!

i was having a small practise earlier and because its on my head, it seems every dart i throw is being held differently, or is landing differently in the board.

i kind of hold the dart like a pen, but becuase the barrel long and straight, i feel my fingers would be better served i a kind of countour, so they'd have less places to move. because there's definetly times i hold the dart too far back, and the dart lands at a weird angle, and about 2 miles to the left of where i want

    Just to update my situation.

I got new darts in the post this morning (from 501darts.ie), 26 gram winmau Mervyn King darts

I checked hundreds or dart shapes and concluded these suited ny grip the best

I'm happy to say I was right!!!! I won't be toppling Taylor anytime soon, but they feel so much more comfortable in my hand than my other darts, I couldn't be happier

Nearly got a 180 and all today, twice, but on each occasion I bottled it with the 3rd dart and hit something a mile away :-p
