    hi
When is the right time to prune a st Johns Wort bush?
There are currently no flowers on it.

    Thanks in advance

Any time you like really. John's Wort is very easy to care for, savage it or trim it. Very hard frost might shrivel some of the stems but it will come on again.

My rule of thumb is to prune a shrub after it has finished flowering. You will have to shape the plant somewhat. I would start after the harsh frosts are over by removing all the scraggly branches outside the circle (or something similar the circle is just to give yo an idea for shaping the plant), then after flowering later in the year prune back to just above the previous pruning point, trying to get the plant to bush out and fill in the gaps.
