Water Pump Trip Switch Slow to Restart

Can anyone offer me advice on this:

I have my own well water supply and in the "pump house" there is a Varem Water Pump. However lately the water has been draining from the taps and the time it is taking to restart the pump is increasing.

I think I did the damage a few months ago with a day of power-washing! Since then the cold tap will drain of its supply and at the moment is now taking up to five minutes for the water to start flowing again. Initially it would restart after 30 secs or so but the time is increasing.

When I look at the red "trip switch" as I call it the power is on and there is a small pointed button to press to restart the system. The light next to this turns green when it kicks in again. At the moment this button doesnt respond when I press it but comes on of its own accord some minutes later.

I had no problem (other than a ice/freezing minor problem last year) before I did the power washing.

    Any advice/ideas??? Thanks.

Check the air pressure in the pressure tank with a digital tyre gauge - it should say on tank what pressure it should be. Could be a leaking bladder. Also check that the breakers are not pitted in the pressure switch. Isolate the electrical supply before removing cover.

From experience I have found one likely cause is the pressure switch. If you have a diaphram type the small hole that lets water enter can become virtally blocked, this can cause puzzling symptoms. The installers around here(wexford) often drill out this hole to a slightly larger size.Even then it can eventually become blocked, hope this helps.:)

Just to update my situation outlined above - I got the problem fixed today. Turned out it needed a new pressure switch.

    Back to normal again.....

At least it was a fairly cheap fix. Good luck.

I would fill out the contacts form and send it. Ask them who the agents in this country are.
