If i was you i would keep your exsisting sky box/decoder and keep your dish fixed at 28.2east for sky. Cancel your sub and you will still have access to the UK free channels. A popular route now is to get a combo box (Satellite and terrestrial) So that you can get the Irish digital channels free via a UHF aerial. Make sure the combo box has a card slot or a cam slot, get a 2nd dish pointed at 13 east hotbird and you can connect both dishes up to the combo box via a very simple Diseqc switch (So it will recieve signals from both dishes). The popular route is to get a Cyfra+ card (Polish) and an Al Jazzerra card (Arabic but a lot of English commentry). You will have access to a wide range of stuff then.

There's a few threads knocking around here on this forum, so have a search and a browse.

    Heres one to start you

    Thanks Snaps

That was very helpful . Is the Cyfra card better for EPL games than the Sky Italia. There are alot of cards out there very hard to decide which one to go for .

    Thanks

I am also looking at the tring card , very confused . Basically i want the best value for football matches , not to bothered about entertainment channels.

    Thanks

Sky Italia is expensive, no English commentry at the moment, but lots of other English speaking content.

Tring is a good cheap bet for EPL, but not sure what else they show and also they use a different satellite called Eutelsat 16 east so not a real common popular satellite.

Cyfra is cheap and cheerfull, no English audio on EPL, but English audio on a lot of other stuff.

Cyfra/Al Jazerra/Sky Italia broadcast using Eutelsat Hotbird at 13east.

Cyfra is about 170€ i think for basic canal+ package. A lot of people here use (Including myself) www.satsklep.pl, highly recommended.

    http://satsklep.pl/index.php?s=produkt&id_prod=1250&id_kat=80&id_typu=0

Its actually 149€ for 13 months

    Thanks yet again Snaps

That is a very good deal . I think i will go with your suggestion at the start cancel Sky and get a 2nd dish with the combo box . Will a standard size dish be ok for the 2nd dish or do i need a larger 1 .

    Thanks

well an 80cm dish is desirable. Don't rush into anything yet, wait for a few more answers on here. Do you have a UHF aerial? If so a combo box is a good option.

I wrote a tutorial ( if you call it that ) on this topic about a year ago. A few of the links are out of dates but the majority of the information is still relevant. Here is a link to it http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=69161667

You will need to bring another cable from the dish to the second sky box

Hi Snaps I got the ferguson ariva 210 combo box with card and cam slot , a sat dish and Cyfra + card . I have the sat dish locked into Hotbird 13 east . Do i need a cam with that card for the card to work , i am not getting any of the Cyfra channells , they are there but the card seems to be doing nothing.

    Thanks in advance:confused::confused:

You probably need to contact the seller to activate the card. Then just leave the box tuned into one of the Canal+ channels on Cyfra+ on Hotbird until the sat box receives the activation signal.

Thanks again Snaps . Having problems with satskelp activating the card , they sent the signal but it won't activate . I have a 75% signal on the dish . i spoke on the phone and they asked me to do a fast scan for the Cyfra + hd channels and no programs where found . When i check the signal on the HD channels its at 10 % on transponder 11278/v/27500 . But all other chanells have a 73% signal on transponder 11747/h/27500.

    eg. Canal + = 73% = 11747/h/27500
    Canal + HD = 10% = 11278/V/27500

Am i on the wrong transponder ? i have emailed satskelp without reply and very hard to get this across on the phone with them. My package is Canal + hd multipacket . it seems to me that i am on the wrong transponder but would like an opion before i go at the dish again .Also where is the best place to buy an Aljazera card?

mcass, maybe the skew,or twist on your lnb is slightly off. it might need angling more one way or another. It seems the activation signal must be coming from the hd transponder. snaps will have other(better) ideas.

Think i used to use the SD version of canal+ film or Canal+ to update. I'm wondering if you need to put in 3rd party software in the receiver for it to read your smart card? Is it in the right way?

I am not familiar with this receiver and not sure what software it is shipped with.

Have a browse around these forums and you may find the answer from someone that has that receiver.

If you go into your menus, look for smart card, see if it is being reconised in the card slot, should come up with type of card, I.E seca/mediaguard etc and show entitlements.
