A musical Christmas?

Somewhat surprised at the lack of 'What did Santy bring?' thread knocking about somewhere so I thought I'd kick it off.

Electro Harmonix Stereo Memory Man with Hazarai was in the stocking, absolute beaut of a pedal, I could literally spend hours tinkering with it.

My Belcat DC Power Brick was meant to arrive on Christmas Eve but due to a substandard courier service, it graced me with its presence a few days late. More of a necessity purchase as opposed to a fun one.

    How'd ye all fare?

    Well jealous of the SMMwH!

    I got a Novation Launchpad!

It's deadly fun, jamming on my laptop is properly jamming now. When I get some time off studying I'll crack it open in Pure Data and have some real fun with it.

Here it is in action if anyone's interested :pac:

For me it was a combination of a new job, my birthday in December and Christmas but I ended up with:

    TC Electronic Polytune
TC Electronic Hall of Fame Reverb
    TC Electronic Flashback Delay

    9v power supply
    6 patch cables
    daisy chain cables

and G&L ASAT Special Deluxe 'No Top', which I very much hope will be arriving on Tuesday or Wednesday next week.

Nice haul Ravelleman! How's the Polytune? I have a Fender tuner but it's quite imprecise so I was thinking of selling it.

Not really a purchase as such, but I did find this over Christmas. I bought it years ago, and then forgot I had it. Timing's perfect cause we're trying to sort a PA for the band at the moment!

It happens! I'm constantly forgetting things like that. I'd a pile of PC stuff hiding in the Mother's house too that I clean forgot about, and a practise amp. This was in a flightcase, buried at the back behind my cars and behind my toolchest.

Yeah my Mam was digging through old photos to embarrass me with at a birthday party, it's underneath the glass on top of the table. I should get rid of those, they don't suit the Beat Laboratory :P

Currently, I'm using mine for effects via Guitar rig, and as a controller for cubase.
But, in the future I'll be using it for live control of vocal effects, an Amp Gizmo, and a DMX controller, in different live situations. Gotta get me the UNO firmware though.
    And you?

Got a Mandolin. Been eyeing one for a few months and the missus was going to source one through a friend of her mother through Ceoltas, but I found out a suggested she let me order the one I wanted. It's a Loar lm-300. Sunburst, nitrous finish. Very nice. Never even held one before, but I suspect it'll far exceed my needs in a mando.
    http://www.theloar.com/LM-300-VS.html

Just fiddling around but I really like it. I think I'll persist with it. I suppose I really have to, considering:)
I put a bit with it and got a case, strings, mando strap, a nice Fender Tweed guitar strap and a set of Gibson Brite Wires for the Les Paul. And a clip on tuner but I think it's knacked already. Still, cost less than a fiver and I have a Korg one somewhere. Just use the iPhone most of the time.

Myself and the family chipped in together and bought my brother a Ludwig Acrolite snare as well. He uses my old Pearl Export kit instead of his own (Sonor) but was using a cheap Sonor snare. The Ludwig really is the business.

That's a lovely mandolin, well you may wear. ;) Never had much experience with them myself, but I'd love to learn it at some stage.

Picked up an amp head building kit from ampbuilder.
Slowly and carefully going through building it now :)

It's a beaut in the flesh (wood?) alright. I had no experience whatsoever but I always loved the sound. Tuned in 5ths like a violin or a banjo (GDAE) so nothing from guitar translates. I'm finding the transition suprising easy though. Not having to concentrae on strumming or picking much means it's half the battle compared to a complete novice to stringed instruments. Originally was going to drop €150 or less on one, but as usual, even though I never played one, the interweb and slightly more expensive tastes led to that one. Highly reccomend the mandolin to any guitarist looking to try something new. Especially as the tuning lends itself to picking up the banjo or even the violin (to some degree) if one is that way inclined. Strangely satisfying sound when strummed open with no notes fretted:confused:

Actually it seems it may be a thin poly finish rather than nitrous. Looks much the same tbh and apparently a thin poly won't affect the sound the way a thick one does.

Use it with Ableton mostly, for triggering samples and rhythm tracks while playing guitar. If you set up 10 patterns with no launch quantisation, you can get them going and properly jam on the drums while playing guitar, loads of fun :)

I did a bit of programming in Pure Data for it, to turn my Digitech Whammy Pedal into an arpeggiator, but that's taken a backseat for college and proper band work. No time for anything with exams :(

    Pics or GTFO. :pac:
Was looking into the phantom power mod, but decided it would be of no great advantage for me. Seeing as I have a few other pedals that require power on my pedalboard anyway, one more cable doesn't hurt. Awesome mod though! :D

    <youtube vidja>

Can't view that vid right now, but must check it out later.

Also, guys, do you notice a small "dead zone" on the expression pedals towards the bottom of the sweep? Not sure if it's just an issue with mine or not. No biggie though, I might just put rubber feet to make the pedal stop at the bottom of the sweep.

Sorry for dragging the thread off topic. :pac:

Actually I haven't gotten the expression pedals to work at all yet. How do you edit your presets? I've been using the on-board programming tap dance method, which is a pain in the hole, and I can't figure out the expression pedals. I've got all the buttons sending particular CC numbers, I've heard a lot of people use MIDI notes instead of CC.

I was going to try write it out, but off the top of my head I can't remember the exact sequence right now. I'm using MIDI notes as opposed to CC numbers. I'll find a link for you later tonight with the instructions for it, and PM you.

Phantom Power switch so I can still power it off mains :

    attachment.php?attachmentid=138264&stc=1&d=1291563468

And the unit Painted Black. I since modified my GT-Pro to have a second power supply inside which can send the 9v down the MIDI port without any additional hardware outside. Looks mental when you just run the one wire down.
