Hope this is alright with the Mods? Think it would be good to have a Windows 8 Discssion thread. Said to be released in 2012. Beta has been announced for Febuary 2012.

from what I understand its geared toward multi-touch interfacing, ie. Touchscreen PCs, Tablets, and Phones. Making the OS experience more alike to the Windows Phone with the functionality of the Xbox Dashboard. It's nothing that really screams "Must have" for a normal laptop or PC user.

I'm part of the Microsoft Expertzone for their retail partners though, and I have yet to read anything substantial there about it yet; so my opinion is subject to develop.

    What overheal said.
As far as im concerned we we still be using windows 7 for a good few years.
Much like XP ,,, 7 is very.stable and a good workhorse.

There was a thread on it back when it was released: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056388071 I tried the beta thought it was horrible. Sometimes MS take the best bits of an OS, throw them out, and add horrible extras onto an OS. They should just continue to refine instead.

They should call it something other than Windows 8.. it should honestly run parallel to windows 7, especially if it's going to be a radical UI change thats mainly focused on touch.

But of course that won't happen because they want the windows experience to be the same or similar on all microsoft products (phone, tablet,PC,xbox)

I don't like the way they're making everything huge on xbox/phone etc. On the xbox, the entire UI is based around kinect now, and I would much prefer the older UI.

Seems they will be going that way with Windows 8. As said above, I can see Windows 7 living a long life. I certainly won't be moving to Windows 8...

Storage Spaces and all the under-the-hood improvements are making W8 look really good.
