    hi
we have a passat 2010 model, tdi.

a few months ago, we got a flt tyre, and in the process of changing it, the anti-theft bolt thats on the tyres, shredded the cog as were tighting it. resulting in us having to fork out €80 on a replacement nut.
(this anti-theft bolt, is one that has a diffrent "head", ie the 1st four are removed normally using the wrench provided, and the 5th anti-theft bolt, has a special attachment that you put on the wrench to remove it. - but its awful flimsy, and applying too much pressure too it cause the grooves in it to shred, leaving you snookerd.)

so, it happened again late last night, and i had to leave the car at the side of the road until we can get a replacement part.

my question is, can you properly and safely drive the car if you were to remove this anti-theft bolt from all tyres.?

or falling that, can you get a standard nuts to replace this god awful nut??

    thanks

You can replace them with standard nuts no bother at all :)
If you just remove them and not replace them the car will fail the NCT etc, of course if there are 5 bolts on the hub there should be 5 nuts, it's debatable how crucial the 5th is if the other 4 are torqued correctly, though you shouldn't just take them off and not replace them.

You just need to take it handy tightening the lock nut.

Try your local Motorfactors,,,im sure they will stock a variety of them...prob M14 threads or so. If that fails, try online with this crowd http://www.performancealloys.com/wheel-nuts-wheel-bolts.aspx
