Thinking of porting over from Eircom to Goldfish.ie

We have an Isdn line here from eircom that costs €32.00 a month (Plus VAT I think) for the two lines and because we have wirless broadband we now can get the same two lines from goldfish for €5.00 pm.

I am testing out a line at the minute and am thinking of handing in my one months notice to Eircom and porting over my two numbers.

Goldfish says 1 months notice to cancel the contract which is fine, but my fear is that for some reason if it all ends in tears how hard will it be to port my numbers back to Eircom ?

Does anyone have any experience of this ?

Do you reckon that I won't need to worry about porting my numbers back ?

You may need to tell eircom that your porting with a minimum notice as it may be in your contract with them. Just look at the terms and conditions and check.

Digiweb port and provide all the numbers for goldfish so you can port back to eircom if things go hay-wire.

Clearly state in the form that they are ISDN numbers. Note that both these numbers have to be ported at the same time.

If you port back to eircom, eircom may consider both lines as separate, so state clearly you want the ISDN service for the lines.

Expect it to take 2-6 weeks (6 at most). Unless its in the terms and conditions to give eircom notice/to tell them your porting, send the port request in straight away. Then for your sake, ring eircom and tell them your porting.

Contact Goldfish and ask them to confirm this and what their process of porting is once eircom release the number.

    HTH.

I sent off an email to Eircom the other day giving the 30 day notice, have had no reply yet thou.

Goldfish say that they will need two weeks to port over the numbers s I am gonna send the form off to them in a fortnight.

    Big Lar,

I'm just wondering how you got on in the end?
In contrast to yourself, I was told by Goldfish "it should only take 24-48 hours for the port to process", then given a time THE NEXT DAY!
Well the Eircom line went dead, dead on time, that was 10 days ago and the line is still dead :(

What provider did you have with your landline? I presume eircom.

Did you have DSL on the line?

Did you have an ISDN service on the line? Were both the numbers ported?

Were you assigned a number as a group of numbers?

Soz for the late response, I was told the the beginning of January when I emailed Goldfish that porting numbers could take up to 14 days, So I gave Eircom my 30 day notice to end on the 2nd February and being the thrifty fella that I am waited till the 16th Jan to organize the port, unfortunately I quoted the wrong account number on the porting form and this took a few days for me to reply to them and send on a new form.

As I had ISDN numbers it did take the full 14 days(Seemingly there is a lot of arseing with ISDN numbers) and I did end up with an overlap of 2 days with no lines.

All good since thou :), and in fairness to Andy Gardner from Goldfish, he did make me aware of the date of the port a week or so previous and it did happen on the date that he said it would.

Edit: Just a thought bonnamh, but are you sure you have your VOIP setting setup correctly on your end ?

@Big Lar - Glad to hear that you had this sorted out eventually. This type of thing happens quite a bit, so some general advice for anyone porting a number into any provider, not just ourselves.

Carriers can only port lines that are active and in use at the time of the port. Generally, it's a good idea to arrange porting and have confirmation that the port has been completed before serving notice on your current provider.

At Goldfish, we handle a large volume of porting requests for Ireland AND the UK. In the UK moreso than Ireland, there's been many instances where the customer has initiated the port, then served notice with the likes of BT once the porting date has announced. On the date of the port, the current provider has then rejected the port on the basis that there is a "work order" outstanding on the line, then subsequently been unable to process the porting request as there is "no service" with the losing provider.

I know it's an inconvenience to be stuck with the losing provider for an extra month but, in my eyes, better to be safe than sorry.
