You could have a faulty SIM.

    Order new one

switch off for 5 mins and check the simchange/lock settings.
does your meteor sim work in another phone, also try a piece of paper behind the sim card,

Thanks for the reply, its nothing to do with the meteor sim, works perfect with that in the phone and in other phones.

The phone only recognises meteor sims and won't recognise any other sim from other networks so it must somehow be set to just recognise supported sims or something.

I think thats the issue i.e nothing wrong with any of the sims or sim holder(as meteors sims work perfect)

The phone was rooted with a stock rom on it when i got it, have tried changing roms to see if it solved the issue but it hasn't.

Method 1 gave me my 8 digit code.

Reason i need it unlocked is because im trying to sell it.

Well Method 1 clearly didn't work so you need to use method 2. I had to use it even though I got the code using method 1.

Ya i tried method 2 after and didn't work either, still not recognising other sims.

It might be worth your while going to www.fastgsm.com. They do it via email & charge 20 US dollars. See if they come up with the same 8 nos.

You should get an answer there - I wouldn't go spending money just yet.

Ya hopefully, just don't understand why it says no sim in the phone, going to try method 2 again just incase i done it wrong the first time, no point spending money when i cant enter the unlock code anyway.

Tried method 2 again and still the same, just won't recognise a vodafone sim that works perfect in another phone :(

Are the Android phones the same as the symbian phones, in that if you enter the unlock code more than 3 times, that you lock it permanently?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 470 ✭✭manu2009

Could be something like that, the guy i bought it off must have done something that caused it anyway id say.

HTC androids have this issue. The phone would have to be sent off, I have no idea whether an XTC-Clip could fix this.

So that could be the issue, i found an old o2 sim earlier thats cut off now but the phone recognised that the sim was in it and just said no service so i might get a new o2 sim card tomorrow to see if that works.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,178 ✭✭✭killbillvol2

How many sims have you tried that didn't work?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 470 ✭✭manu2009

3 different vodafone ones that work, a three one and o2 one that have been cut off because they where used for porting.

The 3 vodafone ones and three one say no sim in phone and the o2 one was recognised, just said no service because its not in use anymore.

That sounds to me like the phone is unlocked but the issue is with sim cards. Otherwise the O2 sim wouldn't work. Have a root around in Settings-Security and see if anything odd is ticked/unticked. Do you have PINs for the sims that didn't work?

Ya will be interesting to see if the o2 sim works properly when i try it tomorrow, none of the sims had a sim pin.

Have tried all the settings and can't see anything wrong with them. You could be right in saying its a sim issue and the is phone unlocked though.

I found this Vodafone.co.uk thread, apparently the Sensation doesn't recognise legacy SIMs. How old are these SIM cards?

There all fairly new, i tested the latest vodafone one i got(from a few months back) there and still nothing.

One thing i noticed though, when i search manually for networks with the meteor sim in, it doesn't display vodafone in the list, only three, o2 and meteor.

Vodafone is there however when i search for networks with the o2 sim in. Its strange.

Tried another o2 sim earlier and it didn't recognise it, its like its just set to recognise meteor sims only.

My interpretation of that would be that the phone is not unlocked at all. Also the chances are that by now you have entered the unlock code more than 3 times, so now only Meteor can solve your problem. They will only do that if there has been a minimum spend on the sim card as payg or if the previous owner is/was out of contract.

Ring up meteor and tell them your going on holidays and want to unlock the phone for use abroad. If they offer you a roaming plan just tell them that you already have a sim for the holiday destination as you used it with your last phone and don't want to change it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 470 ✭✭manu2009

Ya i don't think theres any other solution then ringing meteor.

I would need to have topped up by a certain amount for them to unlock it though and even if they would unlock it would they not just give me the unlock code that i can't enter?

Ya it could be that the previous owner entered the network unlock code wrong 3 times and now it won't recognise any other sim.

If you've rooted your phone and tried the two methods of unlocking and neither worked then the only option is to contact your network. The xda method doesn't work all the time for some reason.

Just to update, was in two meteor shops a few days ago and they have no solution either.
