Silvercrest Sl80/2 receiver Harddisk problem

I have a Silvercrest satellite receiver and harddisk recorder which I bought in LIDL a couple of years back.
When I try to record programmes it says the Harddisk is full and this checks out when I look at HDD properties.
I have NO programmes recorded at all
I have the option of formatting the HD , should I do this to clean it up or is there some other way around this issue.
    Many Thanks

Even though its likely a hard disk issue and the hard vdisk needs replacing I'll move this over to Satellite where people may be more knowledgeable on receivers

If you have nothing saved that you need then why not format it?

If it fails to become useful again, you should look to the guarantee ...... some equipment may have 3 year warranty ....

    Thanks Johnboy for your help:D
    Formatting cleared the Harddisk
I have been successful in recording programs , the only problem I now have:( is that when the prog is been recorded all the other TV channels are unavailable eg Channel 4 (the station recorded) is in Bold whereas the rest are in faint type and are not selectable
Any ideas REC1 is highlighted and REC2 is in faint type
    Cheers
