Will the price of flights go up tomorrow?

Should I book flights today for a trip to France in July or hold off, does the VAT increase in the budget due to kick in affect the cost of flights?

Seems to be plenty of seats still available on the flights I'm looking at, what to do?

VAT is not applied to air travel as far as I can make out. You can check for yourself here: http://www.revenue.ie/en/tax/vat/rates/index.jsp#content

VAT isn't your problem with flights tbh, there are already a number of taxes in your air fare. The problem is stuff like global oil crisis and operating costs.

For a flight to France in July I'd be holding off personally, depending on the airport of course. If it's an airport that only one airline fly into then obviously your choice is limited and price may not reduce by much, but if it's Paris or even Nice then there are a couple of options to each so competition will play it's part.

Still a total guessing game tho.

Thanks for that guys, will be flying into Nice, have carrier & airport options but my dates are fixed,

Usually have flights booked by now, in my experience over the last number of years, booking as early as possible has got me the best price, current prices are reasonable but had to spend that dosh on something else more urgent,

Would be a bit of a squeeze but could purchase now or gamble on waiting a while

I've been travelling to Nice several times a year and rarely book more than 8 weeks in advance unless there is a really good deal to be had.

However, as Savan has pointed out, other factors might come in to play. I'd say book when you're happy with the price.

As a regular traveller to Nice do you find you get best value / deals that close to your travel date in general?

I'm happyish with current price but could be happier

I'm heading down in Feb, booked in mid Dec, 142 return final cost. Next day a seat sale took a tenner off. On Thursday you could still get the flights for about 150 only 6 weeks before travel.

Difference is that these are off peak. July is a whole different ball game so you won't want to leave it too late!

Best look for New Year's Sales, I have always found them to save me some money on flights.
