Mavic or Specialized road shoes?

Quick bit of advice needed please.

I need new shoes and don't want another pair of Shimanos but I'm not sure about sizing. With Mavic or Specialized shoes how do the sizes compare with everyday shoes? Do I need to add a size or two like with Shimanos?

I invested in new shoes recently and, rather than taking a chance, or blaming anyone else if sizing was off etc., I went to three bike shops and tried on as many shoes close to my size as possible until I knew which size in each make fitted me best. Then I ordered mine from the cheapest online site. Cheeky but cost-effective.

I take a size 44 (sometimes 43) and have 2 pairs of 44 specialized shoes. Just ordered my third pair yesterday as it happens..

I'm the same size in Specialized as a I am in Shimano shoes.

And that's the same size I am in most normal footwear too, so I'm very sceptical of the whole "add a size or two" thing. Maybe for some bike shoes but, for me, not in Spesh or Shimano.

I take a 48 in shoes and specialised 48 were a lovely and comfortable fit. Found them to be very wide fitting. Shimano are narrow fitting and would require at least 1 size bigger to fit me.

I have mavic xelium they are narrow fitting may need to check sizing don't know about shamino sizing

I wanted speedplay-specific shoes & I never intended to buy off-the-shop-floor, so it wasn't really a money-saving exercise, more a sizing experiment.
I am size 40/40.5 in non-cycling shoes, size 42 in Specialized (my current shoes) & Shimano, & size 41 in Mavic, Sidi & Giro. I went with DMT shoes (from a US site) in size 41 because reviews online suggested the sizing was closer to Sidi than anything else. I haven't actually tried them on the bike yet because I have yet to attach my speedplay pedals. They feel like a good fit around the kitchen though!

I take 44 in 'ordinary' shoes but size 46 in both my Shimano shoes.

Thanks folks, like a few here I'm a 43/44 in ordinary shoe but a 46 in Shimano due to tightness at the front

@hughmace-that's one of the shoes I was looking at ta.

I was in the LBS yesterday but unfortunately they didn't have what I wanted, in fatc they had a poor enough selection-possibly the time of year.


Are shoes included in the Wheelworx sale maybe?

Yep. 20% off everything except bikes according to their website. Until Jan 3rd.

4 holes, so you don't need an adaptor plate.

For what it's worth I bought the Specialized-size 45, and a perfect fit.
