Sony VAIO DC Jack slightly broken...

    Hi,

I have a Sony VAIO VGN-FZ21E. Bought it in October 2008, had a couple of issues like the NVIDIA chips failing like it does in all of them but that was about it. Great machine, love it!

However, I have a problem. The plastic centre part of the DC jack has come out and is lost. I can still plug in the charger, and it will charge, but all that remains is a metal fork that connects to the inside (the negative) of the charger.

Can I just replace the plastic part itself, or would I have to go deeper and replace the whole lot from the motherboard?

PS: Would it be an idea to place the power jack on the battery itself? Would save having to open up the laptop and risk doing damage!

    Thank you! :)

the dc socket in most vaios is on a cable which is plugged onto the mainboard ( easily unplugged too ) , so you can replace the cable if you are competent enough to open the laptop and remove the damaged cable , try eBay for a cable, shouldnt cost much more than a tenner

Is it easily unplugged? I understood that most were soldered on to the board with a silver alloy so it won't just come apart easily!
