three words: REAR ARCH ROT

I don't know that car but if you're going to look inspect those arches carefully! Bring a magnet. If you're lucky they'll be nice and solid and made of steel.

I've the earlier (1985) MR2 MK1A. This one is the MK1B And looks cheap at that price. Front chin spoiler doesn't look original & looks like there's some creasing on the front driver's wing. As Trevor said, check the rear arches for rot, the bottom of the A-pillars where the doors are hinged & the rear subframes (where the bottom arm from the hub is connected, just under the engine at each side). There are rear arch repair panels available. Will be hard to check the sills with the sideskirts on. The lights seem to be up in all the photos, I wonder do they retract. Another common problem is the "pop out of fifth gear" When driving in fifth, leave off the throttle for a couple of seconds & see if it pops out of fifth when leaving off or re-applying the throttle. Good luck.

a quick search online proves that you can indeed get rust free examples!

But seriously for me an x19 would beat the mr2 hands down any day.

Not sure if you're into originality but the wheels on the one pictured above are nice but nor original. Should have telephone dial type wheels.
