    Hi folks...

Hoping to buy a SLR camera from amazon.uk over the next few days.

Do they add on the vat when i get the package at door?

I heard someone saying they got charged for some products when being delivered .

    Thanks in advanced! :)

Nope, no customs charges when buying stuff from within the EU.

No. You pay VAT already when you buy from Amazon.co.uk ;)

That person saying they got charged, didn't order from Amazon.co.uk. They probably ordered from Amazon.com (US) and since that is outside EU, it has VAT put onto it by customs.

    As i thought !

Thanks for the quick response guys!

Just dont want someone in the house getting told to hand over money if i wasnt there in to collect it myself! Was gonna buy in Ireland , but when the difference comes to more than 100 Euro then it changes everything .

They charge the VAT rate of the total price including postage. Sometimes they charge an import duty too. Also An Post charge around 6 euro too.

so that soon going to be 23% but how would they know the original price of the item. is import duty much?
what would an post have to do with it - do they not use a courier?

Generally, they'll send you a letter asking for paypal receipt etc to confirm price. They calculate price on that. I assumed an post was the carrier. Everything I have bought on amazon has been shipped through an post.

Edit: the rate of import duty depends on the type of the item I think.
