i recently found out i have a sister and i would like to find her. she has already tried to find me but i wasn't passed on the correspondence so i know already she would be eager to make contact. the problem now is i only know her first name. i have no other info. i don't have any relatives left alive that i can ask either. i don't know what name my mother was using either as she changed surnames several times. so all i know if my mothers maiden name and her childs first name. is there anyway of finding someone with this little details or should i just give up basically?

    Hey there,

Boards has an Adoption forum which has links and info on tracing people in general that you might find useful... :)

You could try running a search on Facebook and see if anything comes up, or just Google in general- she may have a blog or something that would show up.

If you think she may have been born in Ireland, why not try the register of births, deaths and marriages.
How did you find out, start there and work back.
Any idea of the location she is in? Is so add in local paper or perhaps an ad in national papers.
Also what about a radio show, Tom Dunne, Ray Darcy or the likes might take it on.
    Best wishes with it.

It can be quite time consuming- but it is eminently possible to find someone- the steps in the traceguides in the Adoption Forum are a good start, and if you get stuck or need further information- if you post in the Adoption Forum, we'd be more than happy to help.

    Kind regards,

    Shane
