He's beneath her, several layers of hair beneath her!

She'll do so much better than him.

He'll do much better than her. Always thought it was an odd match as she doesnt seem to be intellectually on the same level as him, just a pop music puppet in it for the fame&money

Yeah there was talk for some time about a split being on the cards. They seemed so different, then again opposites are supposed to attract.

She was literally caked in make up every time i saw her. I saw the video of the making of her latest video(The one that got away) and she was make up free in the part where she was being transformed into the old lady. She naturally pretty and she doesn't need all that slap.

Apart from being very pretty, she is actually a very normal and down to earth girl. Every time I have seen her interviewed she comes across as quite funny, articulate and intelligent/quirky. I'd say the real reason it didn't work was due to work/distance etc. Nothing more, nothing less.

Always found Russell Brand as a bit of a genius. His subversive stream of conscious ramblings are priceless. Katie seems a bit of a dull girl with little character, I dont even find her attractive. Russell must have been going out his mind in her company, perhaps visa versa.

Aw, I'm sad to hear this.
I always thought they seemed like a solid couple, staying away from the usual madness of "Hollywood" relationships.

Surprised about this, I always saw them as quite a normal couple myself.

Funny enough very few celebrity couples actually work these days.

I hope this means she might make a return trip to Dublin sometime next year seen as how the whole reason she was taking a year off was to try for a baby.

Saw her in the O2 and it was unreal, would love to go again.

You're joking, right? He's about as funny as rabies in a Guide Dog puppy training centre.

very sad news, but I'm hoping he'll be so gutted that he'll return to the radio - I miss that radio show and Maffew and noely noely...............

Wow some rather insane views in here. I have my doubts that the people calling either of them stupid actually know about them. Both are very intelligent people. Look at Russell Brand's interview on Newsnight:

Katy Perry is similarly intelligent and is far from the "pop music puppet" depicted above. I think she went through about 4 or 5 record labels before getting her second album (she had a gospel music album in early 2000s AFAIK) released. She spent much of that time working for record companies writing songs or improving songs for other musicians. She writes many of her own songs too, which can be deceptively difficult in pop music. If it were easy, we'd all be knocking out Billboard number 1s.

Anyway, I think they were attracted to each other as they are both big personalities. But aside from the usual reasons for show business marriages breaking down, I read earlier that Perry found Russell Brand's dismissive attitude towards her parent's religion difficult to deal with. Russell Brand with somebody from a very religious background was always going to cause trouble.

I like them both as individuals but didn't get them as a couple. I hope the split is amicable and they can remain friends.

He posted that picture in 2010 so I doubt that is the reason. Here's a link to an article from December 2010 about it: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1342889/Russell-Brand-posts-picture-barefaced-Katy-Perry-Twitter.htmlThere were a few threads on here about it at the time. I imagine articles like this one from MTV explain plausible reasons for the break up.
On Friday, Russell Brand filed for divorce from his pop-star wife, Katy Perry, after only a year of marriage. With the new year on the horizon, more details about what led to their split are emerging.

Sources told Us Weekly that the couple always fought, but in the time leading up to the divorce filing, the arguments had gotten more heated, leading to one "massive fight."

"She was like, 'F--- you. I'm going to do my own thing.' Russell replied, 'Fine, f--- you too,' " the source explained.

See a timeline of Katy Perry and Russell Brand's relationship.

Meanwhile, other sources close to the couple told E! News that the twosome had spent "a lot of time apart" as of late and that they have been having a number of "problems." TMZ further reports that those separate vacations were planned so that neither party would be in L.A. when the papers were filed.

The couple had been having problems for some time, and after trying to make it work, TMZ sources add that "it just wasn't there" anymore. Brand eventually filed for divorce first due to Perry's strong religious beliefs and background.

Other reports suggest that Brand and Perry may have had differing views about how they wanted to live their lives. The Daily Mail reports that recovering drug addict Brand didn't approve of Perry's friends (like fellow pop star Rihanna). He had reportedly asked her to "tone it down."

The split may be surprising for some given that in the past few weeks, the former couple had gushed about one another in various interviews. When Brand stopped by "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," he steadfastly denied that he and Perry had plans to divorce. "There are always rumors, aren't there? In the end, you have to just not engage with Internet technology, which is difficult, because a lot of the nude-women websites I quite enjoy," he joked.

"I've treated the whole Internet now like it's a wicked little liar," he added. "Yeah. I am really happily married. I'm married to Katy. Perpetually, until death do us part was the pledge."

In fact, when MTV News spoke to Perry at rehearsals for her "Saturday Night Live" hosting gig earlier this month, she noted that she was getting lots of advice from her soon-to-be ex-husband. "My husband, of course, every day I call him and I'm like, 'This happened,' and he's like, 'I know what that means, and here's the next play-by-play for tomorrow,' so he's gotten me really prepared for this week, thankfully."

Whatever happens next for these two in 2012, the comedian noted in a statement that he hoped to remain friends with Perry. "Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage. I will always adore her and I know we'll remain friends." Perry has remained mum since the news broke.

The couple kicked off their love affair at the 2009 VMAs when Brand was hosting and Perry was on hand as one of the night's performers. They later got engaged in India during a New Year's vacation months later. The pair married in a lavish affair in India in 2010. News of their split comes days after they sparked split rumors when they were seen separately over the Christmas holiday sans wedding rings.

    http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1676631/katy-perry-russell-brand-divorce-details.jhtml

Consistent disagreements over her family beliefs, babies, his dislike of her friends (particularly since he is a recovering heroin addict) are all pretty good reasons to break up. Not suited to each other and married way, way too soon. The usual reason why celebrity marriages break up,

I know he has mentioned it before, but her parent's are extremely devout Christians . That is where her gospel music came from in the 2000s. A few of the stories say he was dismissive towards their religion. She has always said that her religion is important to her (even if her songs & lifestyle is mildly hypocritical...but sure whatever :pac:) and he strikes me as the type that would make fun of traditional American Christians. Mainly because there is an awful lot to make fun of when it comes to them :P

Hardly surprising. Who'd want to live with either of them? They might be somewhat clever, but they're both extremely annoying.
