What would you do if you entered your OWN HOME and found a burglar rummaging around?

Or you woke up in middle of night and heard one??

Found one attempting to steal your car while you were inside?

Saw them (GOD forbid), threatening your family while you were in your house??

Just out of curiosity, where does the law stand on self defense, or defending the property from thieves that you worked hard to acquire?

I would get my putter or Baseball bat and knock him/her out, call the gards. Maybe call a abulence for him/her. If their lucky.

Call the Gardai.. Call the Gardai.. Call the Gardai..

if you can't dial 999 - try make as much noise as possible maybe awaking neighbors if your not living rural.

Use your head to protect yourself and family..

Turn on as many lights as possible - if its dark

You are entitled to protect yourself, your family and property using reasonable force from tresspass or crime per the non fatal Offences against the person act 1997..

The intruder will be desperate to escape don't corner him if it puts you at a greater risk of injury.. Again use your head to protect you & your families safety..

A powerful torch like a LED Maglite can stun a intuder with its powerful beam or a strike to their arm or legs try hit their radial nerve..

A can of lynx deodorant or the like is also a handy spray to a persons eye...

As Ron Bugundy says from Anchorman "It Stings the nostrils" ;-)

If he were to be armed with a knife from your kitchen, you could have a struggle and stick it in him by accident.

    No more to say.

It's better to be judged by 12 then carried by 6.. The above advice would likely have you carried the latter..

If you just assault the burglar there is a defence available under sections 18-20 of the Non Fatal Offences Against The Person Act 1997 which basically provides for reasonable force.

If you kill them, the same defence is available under common law, again, the killing must be reasonable in the circumstances. See the Nally case: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_of_John_Ward

As someone with a wife and two kids, I would look to protect them first....

I love all the brave boys. I'd believe it when I'd see it.

Believe what you want. Mock as you wish. You dont know me, but if someones family was threatened, you dont worry to much about that.

Anyway, before a mod intervenes, I will leave it at that.
