Most men are nudists

Well, the retail and fashion industries seem to think so. Have you ever noticed how much bigger the women's clothes departments in shops are than the men's departments? A whole floor could be for the entire women's department, while a small section of another floor would be for the men's department. Individual sections in women's departments are often bigger than the whole of the men's departments. The shoe section or the makeup section or the handbags section in a women's department are often much bigger than the whole men's department. After going through aisle after aisle of women's shoes, just to get to the part of the men's department, you find a small corner or a unit with just a few shelves for all of the men's shoes. There are more women only clothes shops, than men only ones, and those women only clothes shops are usually a lot bigger.

OK, while we are half of the population, it is true us men don't spend as much as clothes or buy as many as women do. We don't have those crazy clothing habits either, like looking into our wardrobes and on seeing that really expensive item we bought, saying to ourselves "Oh no, I can't wear that tonight. I wore it before." Picture the scene (it will never happen):

Paddy arrives at the party. Mick nudges Joe and says to him "Bloody hell, look at Paddy, I am sure I've seen him wear that shirt before!!" Just then John runs out of the party screaming, with his wife running after him. Outside she asks him what the problem is. "Oh, it's terrible. My night is ruined. There is a guy in there wearing the same jacket as me!" he replies in tears.

Nevertheless, it would be nice to have bigger men's departments and more choice of clothes. When men do go in and see such a small selection, of course they are less likely to buy anything, perpetuating the myth that men don't buy much clothes. Give us men's departments that are even half the size of a women's department, and we just might.

Women spend more on clothes, they like to browse more it appears.
When the male of the species starts doing that more so - maybe then a balance will occur.

OP shut up. What kind of man wants men to all be subjected to the same amount of crap about fashion etc. that women have thrown at them!? It's already happening with smelly stuff/stubbley razors/moisturisers etc., I won't be giving into it.

I just could not read that OP but my opinion is that given the choice to walk around naked all the time, men would do it more than women would

Women may have more clothes than men, or maybe may not keep clothes for as long as men do.

I'm not sure what else to say, so here is a picture of a sad panda

I want mens fashion to go back to the Mad Men style stuff, suits, hats, overcoats ftw. keep your ill fitting river island tshirts and jeans that come made with more stains and rips than a winos pants would.

Let me give you an idea of an absolutely true shopping story from a lady of may close acquaintance.

She pursued a lady in a shop for some time who was carrying a lace dress that looked nice. This close acquaintance (let us call her Mrs CML) realised that the dress was too small for the lady but would be the right size for her.

When the lady went to the changing room,Mrs CML followed.

As predicted, the dress was handed back to the assistant as being the wrong whatever.Mrs CML took the dress and tried it on.

It was OK but showed too much cleavage and was also rejected.

    This is how women shop.

I'm pretty sure they're not expressing a view or preference, they just set up shops in whatever way they reckon will maximise profits. The gender-floorspace-ratio will be decided by what the genders spend.

Double breasted jackets? Trousers cut like tablecloths?

    /assumes gay pose

Let me tell you something about double breasted jackets, they are not elegant and they are not classy. If we must be rid of the (rather well fitting) high street fashions for men, then we would be better off replacing it with well cut, single breasted suits such as is worn by David Cameron.

    http://images.newstatesman.com/cameroncommon.jpg

The only man who can always get away with double breasted jackets is the Prince of Wales, and his are bespoke.

Okay okay if you really want as many clothing options as women you've fallen into the same terrible mindset as most women have, a mindless want for cheap, trendy clothes just to buy more and more because you do often find that perfect garment and so quickly forget about it or it falls apart.

This is only a modern issue of consumerism both genders would have has a very limited selection but the clothes were made so much better and would last and be appreciated.

Don't think because there are more clothes there is more of a choice, you might think there are a lot of munters around these days but a lot of time its average girls wearing clothes that would only look passable on a model ie. leggings with a t shirt, sleeveless, high thigh skirts, shapeless clingy fabric, horrible prints.. nothing classy 90% of the shíte I have to get through to find anything that complements contemporary trends and fits

Sure for guys there wouldnt be these issues, like the model has a straight up and down body so do most men even those with bear bellies but why would you want all the hassle!

that is stereotypicaly thinking of course-stereotypicaly a lot of women are total nutjobs as soon as they get their hands on some money and switch on their 'spend mode' but we definitely are not all like that.

its far more to do with the side of brain which has the most dominance in use-the left side is more common with males and the right side more common with women but we can be the total opposite.
righties tend to think more randomly, impulsive and in the moment than make use of order, planning and logical thinking;as with the left side.
but plenty of males on the right are fashion obsessed, just as there are plenty of us females who...dont care.:D

personaly coudnt give a sht as am only interested in clothes for the pure reason of avoiding indecent exposure laws and hypothermia, seems like a confusing concept to wear things based on how they will look to other people.

look for a male only shop if want a place that better understands the male views of clothing, but woud personaly recommend heading to online shopping.
if are willing to look past the risk of things not fitting, there is a lot more available and it quite often is better value.
its where mine gets bought in the rare ocasions will buy clothes.

I've taken to buying clothes on Amazon.co.uk - nice selection if you know your size.
I refuse to wear shredded/bleached jeans, they may be in fashion, but they look filthy and ridiculous IMO. I think it's an affront to our dignity, and a psychological manoeuvre by the government to get us to accept harsh austerity measures. If by virtue of limited selection, we're forced to dress as though we sleep in a builder's skip at night, we may feel more poor and less entitled.
Men's departments have to be kept small or the aisles of shredded jeans and "retro" tops might be noticed for what they are.

So do it. You can't be overdressed imo. And women go wet for a well dressed men, only the moreso when every other man around her is in a pair of skinny jeans and deep v neck t.
My only issue is that I can't get a hat big enough for my head in any of the dept stores and the milliner in Temple bar is pricey. :o

One set of underwear and someone to wash them at the weekends.
    One suit or overalls.
One shirt and someone to wash it at the weekends.
One tee shirt and someone to was it every three months.
    One pair of jeans
Three Ties, one red, one blue one grey
One pair of shoes and someone to polish them at the weekends.
    One pair of Boots
One pair of runners. Foot wear typically lasts three years.
Socks, now here we can't have enough socks a new pair everyday and someone to throw them out at the weekends.
