Is John one of the all time greats? 3 time world champ, and boy was he on fire in this tournament a shame he went on the way he did.

Sometimes I dont think he gets the credit and respect he deserves from the so called experts, and especially the crowd.

After what he's done in the game, booing him is so uncalled for. He's actually a quite charismatic man as well, he was very gracious in the defeat there even though in the circumstances, most people wouldn't be!

He has to be up there as one of the legends of darts. Its even harder since he doesnt get the backing that many of the English players get from the crowd.

No doubt he is one of the legends, after winning so much and I agree that the crowd never seems to give him the respect he deserves, especially when he comes over here for the Grand Prix I've noticed. Next year is a big year for him, after winning the WC in 2008 he has done nothing of note really since, that is until this championship. It'll be interesting to see how he bounces back from this loss. I'd have to say that it is unlikely that he will win another major though..

He is one of my favourite players, it's only recently that he has upped his game again. It wouldn't surprise me if he didn't hop over to the Lakeside tournament now that he's out here.

As the saying goes, he's big in Japan.....:p

    Eh?

He'd hardly switch back to the BDO. Or are you referencing the fact that he commentated with them for years even while playing with the PDC?

Probably my all time favourite player. His win against Taylor in the World Final in 03 is one of my favourite sporting moments. Think he beat Taylor in 4 or 5 television tournaments in the same period, albeit not necessary the final.

it's only recently that he has upped his game again.

JP doesnt up his game, he doesnt have gears like some of them. He is a solid 95 player. If your on your game/averaging in the 100's you'll beat him; if your not he'll have you.

I must agree that John Part has never got the proper recognition for been a 3 times World Champion and 1 of the greats of the game.

He won his first World title way back in 1994 in Lakeside and while this tournament was viewed by many as 1 of the poorest BDO World championships considering it was the 1st one after the split never the less John Part tore the field as under only dropping 1 set in the whole tournament and he hammered Bobby George in the final 6-0.

Initially when he moved to the PDC at first he struggled to make an impact but he made the final of the World Championship in 2001. Indeed he played another classic of a game in the semi final against Rod Harrington that year that went the distance with John edging an epic game 6-5. However that game drained him and he was hammered in the final 7-0 by Phil Taylor which at the time lead to many saying that was as good as it would get for him.

However Part is a fighter and he doesn't lie down too easily and in 2003 he reached the final of the World Championship again facing his old rival Phil Taylor. Taylor was going for 9 titles in a row and was the hot favourite to win but alas Part played brilliant darts to win another classic 7-6 and in doing so became the first player to win both the BDO and PDC World titles after the split.

Again Part had a few lean years in the World Championships even though in that time he was 1 of the few players to beat Phil Taylor a number of times in that period. He also won the Desert Classic I'm sure in 2007. In 2008 Part was rank outsider to win the World Championship and wasn't considered by too many to have a good run in the tournament not to mind win it. But again John Part turned the form book upside down and after the shock defeat of Taylor by Wayne Mardle in the quarter finals Part seized his chance and went on to win his 3rd World title defeating Kirk Shepherd 7-2 and in the process creating history by becoming the first player to win 3 World titles at 3 different venues.

IMO John Part is worthy of a place in the top 10 greatest darts players ever. And I think there's still a lot more good darts to come from Part yet in the next few years.

Yeah, I know he was commentating for the BDO, but I was referring to him playing there, I seem to remember him going out early in the PDC event one year only to be in the BDO event later on, that's as I remember it, but then again my memory isn't as good as it used to be, so I'm open to correction on that....

Either way I like John Part as a player.

The one thing Part has in guts. he's never beat, he wins legs and games he shouldn't through sheer attitude and guts. Something he had lost the last couple of years but seems to have back now. He's the one player that will take every single chance and had it not being for the crowd booing on that d18 (which Wade applauded) he'd of bein in the semi's.

There is 2 sides to this argument.

First of all JP (Bloody Mardle!) has won 3 world titles but in the other televised events has not done an awful lot. the likes of the big 3 (taylor, barney and bristow) have the edge here.

his record as the world champion was appauling.one thing you could guarantee was that whoever would beat taylor or barney as champion would have to be at their very best (for taylor - part 03/barney 07- for barney - mason 2000/fordham 2004).part lost to williams, dudbridge and davis as world champion.3 very mediocre players who part the big 3 would have beaten at their peak.

I detest the way sky go on and on and on about averages as much as the next man but part doesnt have the same figures as the big 3 plus maybe adrian lewis.

it must be said the years in between his world titles have been poor.it took him 6 years to find his form after the 1st world title and could have won at least one more than he did between 1994-2003.

On the other hand his 1994 win was still extraordinary given that he was an unknown, only lost one set and became the first overseas champion.we all know the low average he got as harped on for years by sky.fair enough he only won with an 86 average or so but the stats in the first pdc world championships are not deadly either (around 88 on averages).of the players who left in 93 only 3 or 4 were strong - wilson, bristow, deller, lazarenko and lowe for example had all peaked before the split and i dont believe would have lived with part.

what really given him the claim to fame is that he was the only one to return from a taylor hammering.Given how Taylor hammered and weakened the careers of his main rivals most of the time (bristow, manley, priestley, and unfortunately barney after 2009) it showed great guts by part to come back from the 2001 slaughter.taylor was at his peak around 1998-2003 and someone had to stand up to him.thankfully part had the resolve to do so.for this alone he is entitled to huge respect.without him it would have been barney to interrupt 12/13 years of world titles by PT.the likes of manley and barney will be remembered slightly for failing against taylor whereas part will be remembered for coming back to beat him.

Whats greas about JP is that he didnt rely on a gimmick like others and remarkably doesnt get as much slagging as other clowns (mardle, lloyd, manley).in fact he is the only darts player very few can take the p""" out of which is some going.even when the crowd were on his back yesterday he didnt let it bother him too much which I admire.didnt complain about it like taylor or nicholson would.

Top class commentator too I must say.the best in the business by some distance.is badly missed now.compared to the likes of pyke and harrington especially.

overall he is not without flaws and is behind taylor, barney, bristow and maybe priestly but only for him taylor would have been unbeatable for a decade or so and will be always be fondly remembered for putting manners on the greatest of them all in his greatest era.

all things considered part is worth his place in darts hall of fame.

Love John Part. Always like to see him do well for some reason. Maybe it stems from when I first started watching the BDO or something but I always thought he was one of the most likable players around and something a bit different to the legions of rough and ready looking British darts players.

What more can you say than (would never resize the JP sneer):

I like him. I like his walk on music even more though. Am I right in saying that he walked on in the final in '08 with a Stormtrooper and Princess Leia by his side and the Imperial March playing in the background? 99% certain he did that. That was my favourite walk on of all time.

Great player as well. I don't know enough to call him one of the greats but you don't win 3 world titles by being a mug.

John is one of my favourite players, definitely one of the all time greats. the 03 wc win against the power was some performance.

He's a very good player, a friend of mine knows the guy that was managing him in 2008 when he last won the Worlds and he has hinted to him that Part is pretty lazy and doesn't always give his absolute best all the time which is something I've personally always thought about him.

Top player alright. Hopefully he can acquire a more suitably fitting shirt!! That blue yoke he had on made him look like he was in a kimono!!!
