Looking for a speedy and reliable guy who repairs guitars in Dublin 1 or 2. I have heard bad things about Guitarfix. I heard the shop Perfect Pitch do this work, am I correct? Are they any good?

    Any help appreciated.

Guitar has a tuning issue where an open string is in tune (according to tuner), but it becomes progressively out of tune as you ascend the fretboard. It is more problematic on the B and small E string.

That's just an intonation issue! Easily fixed at home with a good tuner and a screw driver. What kind of guitar is it?

Fender Stratocaster, USA. I would appreciate any help on this.

Plenty of videos and tutorials for doing this on the web. This guy for example does one on intonation. I haven't used that video myself, but found some of his other stuff useful. Dont forget to use new strings when setting intonation.

Ok, the intonation is set up correctly now, according to that video anyway.

Saved me a few quid there. :)

I was coming in here to ask that just same question.:D
I have the same issue with the thick E string.
Will look at the video tonight to see if i can sort it myself ;)

As a matter of curiosity, how much does it cost to get a guitar set up?

Depends on place to place, it's normally around 35-50 quid.

Had a look at the video last night, tried to fiddle around but didn’t make any improvements...

As a beginner it is a bit daunting I must say. I think id be better off bringing it to the shop to get it sorted rather than spend more time fiddling around instead of practicing.

Am no expert (yet;)) but compared to my acoustic guitar, I know the electric one doesn’t sound right. I was told before that the neck is slightly warped and the action a bit high so I guess there’s a bit more than just the intonation to sort out and it would be nice to practice on a guitar that’s properly set up.

And 35-50euros doesn’t sound too bad even though am broke.

Anyone could advise a shop where I could get my guitar set up?
I’ve been to a couple of shops in town before but wasn’t very impressed with the customer service. Almost like I was bothering the guy in the shop asking questions.

That's what happens when you substitute salesmen with musicians. It's the same in almost every music shop I have ever been too, with some rare exceptions. Stunningly poor level of customer service in music shops.

Sounds like a bit more than intonation alright!

I find the guys in Dublin Guitar Centre very approachable and helpful, so much so that I've bought 2 guitars there in the last year. I reckon they could get it sorted for you or point you in the right direction.

See also the resources thread that's stickied in this forum for a list of places you might go to directly.

It wont be an issue that the guitar is a fender squier strat? They only do Cort if am not mistaken?

They do cort alright, but plenty of other brands as well. The brand wont make a difference really for setup, the principles are the same.

They told me to bring it in to have a look and they will let me know if they can do anything, quote me for the job and if they cant do it, where i should go to get it sorted.
So ill be going there tomorrow night, hopefully, there isnt much wrong with it. Even though it was given to me, i dont want to spend a fortune on it because id rather keep my cash to buy a new guitar in a few months time ;)
