Can you use Sky Go abroad. I can use it fine here but went on holidays to France before Christmas and kept getting a message saying something like 'I had to be connected to the Internet' even though I had very strong WiFi at the time.

You should be able to use it abroad as it is tied into your device that the account is registered to.
Check your network connection the next time maybe you had strong wifi signal but weren't actually connected to it.

i tried Sky Go in Spain earlier on this year to try and watch a bit of sport , but i received an error message stating that Sky go was geographically restricted to The UK and Ireland , they apparently could detect I was outside this area by the ISP address or something

    hope this helps

TOR is worth looking into.Don't think mods will mind me mentioning it as the op is paying for the service anyway.

You can only use it with an Irish/uk ipaddress but a bit of research will get you around this

It sort of defeats the object of having sky go, if you cant watch it while your away????

I used it in Italy on the 3G network thanks to 3 Like Home and it worked, but it didn't work on wifi thanks to the ISP being outside Ireland and the UK

Not if they only hold broadcast rights for Ireland and the UK

Okay the short answer is no. You can't discuss the long answer here.
