I'm just trying to find out for sure if the Library re-opens on Monday? It says it does on the Library homepage, but I was pretty sure Monday was a bank holiday and in fairness it's not as if the library have ever said they'd be open and then not been. So if anyone knew for sure that'd be great. I just tried ringing and there was no answer.

I managed to get in touch with my friend who works in the Library and he said that the library is re-open on Tuesday 3rd of January, not Monday 3rd of January as it says on the Library website

    WIT Google Maps

I don't drive myself so Google Maps is the best I can do. WIT itself is on the old Cork Road, I think since they built the motorway from Dublin-Waterford that the Cork-Waterford road now continues on this new road instead of going via WIT. Anyway if you follow the N25 to Waterford and then take the first turn off to the city centre you should be ok. WIT is outside the city on the West hand side so you should meet it before getting to the City Centre.

If your coming from the carrick side I assume your coming in on the old bridge, down the quays? You could also just avoid the city center and head over the bypass (toll road) then connect onto the outer ring road. Much easier this way.

If you confirm which side of Waterford you arrive in on, ill give better directions if needed

    Thanks for the help all

Hi Sully i would be coming in over the bridge way i was on google maps and saw a different way which totally avoids the city is that the way you would go?How share much is the toll on that road

What is Waterford like as a city? looking for a good area to get accomodation in any ideas?

    Thanks again

You can go down the quays and straight out the Cork Road, but its generally mad busy and a pain in the backside. So I would personally avoid the city, head over the Waterford Bypass and pay the toll (it was €1.80 for a car but that may have gone up like other tolls, not sure as I haven't been there since before Christmas).

    Here it is on Google Maps;
    http://g.co/maps/j8j6v

As the Carrick Road ends you come to a big roundabout where you take the second exit (first heads onto the Motorway, the M9) which brings you up to another roundabout where you take the third exit (first uses Bypass to head towards New Ross, second brings you towards City Center and third is the Suir Bridge / Waterford City Bypass Toll).

When your driving over the bridge you come to the toll, pay up and go straight on. Take the very first exit past the toll (sign post for Waterford & Tramore) head up the slip road and take the first exit of the roundabout.

Keep driving and you will come across another roundabout with a sign for WIT (its the sports campus) and keep going straight (first exit) until you meet another roundabout where you will go straight on again (second exit).

At the next roundabout, take the first exit and go straight on. You will pass a hotel, some car garages, and a business park. You will go through two sets of traffic lights (not pedestrian only lights, traffic management lights). WIT Cork Road Campus (Main Campus) is just ahead of the second set of traffic lights on the left.

Parking is a nightmare on both campuses so leave time for looking for a space. There is a car park at the front and at the back. You can also head down to Waterford Uniteds Car Park if WIT has no space (exit the car park, turn left and go straight on passing two sets of traffic lights, Topaz and Maxol. Just beyond Maxol on the right side before the roundabout you will see the entrance to Waterford United).

If you want to head into the City Center, just keep going straight past Maxol, second exit on the roundabout, passing McDonalds & Eddie Rockets, Spar, Topaz, WIT College St. Campus, two sets of traffic lights and your at all the clubs & pubs (pretty much), straight on again heading towards the quay is bringing you into the City Center with car parks all along both sides of the quay (City Square Car Park is on the left, you will see a sign for it. Its an indoor decent enough shopping complex with underground car parking!).

As for accommodation -- are you fussy? Mature student? Lots of places to rent, some great and some not so great.

Waterford is a great little city tbh, it just depends what you want to do. Its only about an hour and half to Dublin, motorway all the way.
