Was in there earlier and it was at the collection area. I am disgusted as it has the same spec as one I bought for 599 two weeks ago at PCWorld.

    Corei5 6GB/500GB

That is a previous generation i5 and not the current Sandy Bridge line.

I looked for this on the website and only found this one

    http://www.argos.ie/static/Product/partNumber/5085257/Trail/searchtext>ACER.htm

    Acer Aspire Core i5 4GB 320GB 15.6 Inch Laptop

So the one posted is a special for Waterford?

I can't honestly say if it was Waterford only but I am sure of the spec. It didn't say if was current or last generation Corei5 and I didn't ask. It was at the collection area along with Kindles and other laptops. Could have been only a few of them. Maybe call them if you are going to check it out.

In terms of benchmark, a 2010 i5 is similar to a 2011 i3, worth keeping in mind. The spec of the €499 HP (With the 2011 i5 and 6gb RAM) in PC World/Currys is hard to beat, but remember, its is just good specs in a basic laptop, as regards the screen and keyboard. Tryed it out yesterday and didn't fancy it at all.

In fairness to the laptop ihe OP, it is still a fairly good deal, if you like Acer laptops. A lot of people seem to hate them but i've always found them to be okay. The hard drive in this this is a bit miserly though, at 320gb.

It will almost certanly be the i5 750 model and not the 2500 Sandybridge models. Lets be honest though, the core i5 750 is a speed demon anyway, what are you going to be doing thats going to stress it out? For most people, absolutely overpowered!

Would steer clear of acer after having three completely different models which developed the same issue, Be happy you got a HP though :D

That's not really the point though is it?

That i5 CPU was mid-range in 2010. Now it's almost considered low-end. Give it a year and it will be considered archaic and underpowered.

Buying old hardware when the latest and greatest isn't all that more expensive just doesn't make sense.
