    Hi

We plan on cycling from Dublin to Berlin August 2012...

Route is L'pool to Hull, then Rotterdam to Berlin on the Eurovelo R1

Does anyone know id this is suitable for road bikes all the way, or are there some sections that are hybrid/mtb?

If so, anyone recommend an alternative route?

    Cheers

If you're used to biking in Dublin on a roadbike, then you'll be fine.
Wiki says 80% is sealed road surface. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EuroVelo

I cycled part of it awhile ago, lovely surface for a road bike ( though most you see will be on high nellies). According to the german wiki, it is the same all the way as far as Poland before turning into signposted back roads in Lithuania and then going into a dump site in Latvia (wiki not me).

That said, for what you want to cover it should be far better than anything you'll get here, road bike all the way.

I was looking at doing a similiar trip earlier in the summer and have a couple of questions that you might have already considered

How do you plan on getting to Liverpool? I see that the direct ferry doesn't take foot passengers...

Have you mapped out a route to Hull? The trans-pennine trail is longer and doesn't appear to be suitable for road-bikes...

    Cheers
