Hi guys, Im looking for a Wifi dongle that will work with Ubuntu straight out of the box. It's for my uncle and I need it to work straight away as I won't be there to help.

He said he went to a Three store and they said it won't work with Linux but I have a feeling it's just because it doesn't say it on the box. So does anyone have any experience with them? Can anyone recommend one?

    Edit: Change of title

I have personally used the following without problems with Ubuntu:

    O2: Huawei E1752c
    Vodafone: Huawei K3765
    Three: Huawei E122

Pick a network, any network :D

I'm going to be very honest, if your uncle lives anywhere remotely rural, don't go with Vodafone. Don't get me wrong, Vodafone is great in cities.. Borrow them from friends and try them out. One might need a tiny command (once-off) and I can't remember which one it is. It just stops it from appearing as a flash drive (SD card).

    Hope you get sorted.

I think ill tell him to go ahead with the Three one. I think I should be there to do it though in case there is a problem.

Enter the following in a console. Stick with Huawei dongles, I used a Huawei E173 with Ubuntu without any problems.
    sudo apt-get install usb-modeswitch

One more thing guys, I didn't mention it because I didn't think it would matter a whole lot but I put Lubuntu on my Uncle's machine. I presume it won't make a difference but just throwing it out there.
