A friends ford focus has all the dash warning lights coming on when driving. Its usually after a few miles, the car is running fine other then they had to turn ignition key 3 times a while back before the engine turned over.
They had it in the garage and they could find no fault and reset the warning lights but it came back after a few miles.

Any ideas to what the problem is??

It is difficult to say without seeing the car. There are a few different things that can cause those symptoms. Instrument clusters can go faulty on them but have also seen faulty ABS units causing the clocks to go crazy. Also had one a couple of years back with a loose earth wire which caused similar symptoms.

A faulty ABS unit usually doesn't cause a non start, just cause all the warning lights to come on, the speedo stops working and the mileage shows up as "
    "

When the cluster is faulty you get a non start and the car sometimes cuts out while driving.

The car has not cut out while driving yet...
My friend did day that they had to change a headlight and indicator on the same light cluster at the front a while back. Not sure if this is related.

The immobiliser is in the instrument cluster with these and sometimes(rare) they give trouble and will need to be replaced.
Was it a Ford garage you were in? Some diagnostic computers won't show up all Ford codes and you may need a genuine Ford IDS computer to show them.
