4 Day golden ticket

I wasn't away at all last season as I've started back in college part time and have been 'snowed' under (sorry) with exams etc.. Myself and fiance will be going away probably Paddy's weekend for a week, nothing booked yet but my princess has given me license for 4 days solo skiing/boarding after I finish my exams on the 17th. Last exam is 10:00-12:00 so any dates from the 17th after noon up until 29th afternoon would work.

I'd ideally love to go somewhere that can offer park lessons off the cuff without tying me in for a full week, as I've said, it will be only 4 days. I will sleep anywhere, so no frills needed. I have my own gear, so just need some direction as to where would suit, transfers etc...

I was checking out flights into Munich with Aerlingus, and they could be done for as little as 120, +60 for the carriage. I imagine a 4 day pass would be about 140-160 (320 total) so If I could get accommodation, transfers and 2/3 days lessons, all totaling about 500-550 (food and drink aside), I'd be made up.

Oberstdorf would work well as I've been before, but for the lack of a decent park. I would consider myself beginner-intermediate. My biggest concern is the transfers side of it, cost and time. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Mayrhofen - use the train for transfer a local pension for accommodation and one of the best parks in Europe.

Laxx in Switzerland might be another option. Obviously flying to Zurich or Geneva instead.

I went ahead and booked flights, ski carriage and train ticket from Munich. Working on accommodation at the moment, and its looking like around the 200 mark, for somewhere in Mayrhofen itself. Hoping to get soewhere close to the station. I found This website doing a search here on boards, and it had everything I needed.

I had a look at the park map and it looks great (thanks for the recommendation fattes!). There are different areas for different levels too. I have 3 schools shortlisted for when I get over there, just wondering if anybody on here has any experience with them. They are all around the same price (100 for 2hr a day over 3 days). I will likely book beforehand.

    Mayrhofen 3000
    Ski Mayrhofen
    Mayrhofen Total

I've never had park lessons before, so if anyone has any tips, they would be greatly appreciated. Also, I am looking to buy a pair of boots when I get there, so a try before buy scenario would be great if anyone has a shop recommendation.

Yeah agree with Mayrhofen - very convenient from Munich.
The local pensions can be very cheap (at least I stayed there once with some Germans and it was dirt cheap - but I don't know if that is local knowledge helping - I've not been able to find such cheapness since.

Fattes do you know of good way to find cheap pension's there ?

Both the below pensions are pretty good and decent value.

    Hotel Pension Strolz
    Haus Puchrucker

SMT is a really good ski school out in Mayrhofen.

As for the lessons, relax and enjoy, you will need a helmet for the Park, can recommend a back protector & some ass shorts to.

The Pizza place at the end of the Park is incredible!

Took your advice and booked 2 days group and 1 day private with SMT. I have a helmet and body armor.

Flights with Aerlingus, Ski Carriage, Train Transfers, B&B in Siegelerhof, Ski pass and Lessons with SMT, costing just shy of 750. Seems a bit steep for such a short trip, but having said that I probably could have turned it into a week for a few quid more. And I won't be spending much more on top of it, and wasn't away last season so have convinced myself it was a bargain!

Really looking forward to it now. If it works out and the area suits, I might come back with the misses in mid March instead of zell.

I paid 85 for the flexible train ticket, think the set times one was 82. It can be done alot cheaper though, especially if there is a group.

So the entire Mountain closed today due to high winds. I'm absolutely miserable! And to make it worse, it has been snowing all day! I got a refund for the 2 remaining days I had on the pass (75 from the 120), and if the place is open tomorrow, I will buy a day ticket, and have both the remaining lessons on the same day(otherwise full refund), so not all hope is lost.

Before I came I took AIB's wintersports travel insurance, and just wondering if anyone has has ever claimed for closures or if its even possible. Came all this way for 3.5 days on the slopes and just so annoyed at the closure. Obviously not for the lift pass or lessons, but is there anything else I can claim for, as it wasn't cheap to get here?

    Cheers.

P.S. SMT was a great choice(thanks fattes). Only person in the class was me so it was essentially a private lesson. Local Instructor, Mike, who has competed in freestyle in the past, and has been snowboarding since it was invented.

    ****ing winds!!!

Gutted for you sucks to be that stuck but at least there is something to do in the village.

Pretty sure travel insurance covers lift closures.
