I vaguely remember setting up a gmail account a few years back. I was lazy and committed to my hotmail account which I still use as my main email today. About a week ago, I got an email from Gmail Account Recovery telling me how to reset my password but if I hadn't requested the reset, ignore the email. I thought this was odd. Earlier this year I'd set up another gmail account so I could continue to use Youtube.

I was cleaning out my hotmail inbox today and remembered the message and became intrigued. I remembered the old address by now and even remembered the password. I logged in and found my inbox had over 1200 emails, mainly from FB and some from itunes. What happened was another bloke with my name had used my email address to set up his FB account. I had my emails going back to '05 but my namesake had created his FB a year ago used ournamewithoutpunctation@gmail.com as the email associated with his FB account. This being the same handle I'd used back in '05.

I don't know how he could go through the full FB registration process without being able to access an email from FB or apple to a valid email address. It's clear that my address has never been used by him. It looks like he was trying to set up itunes last week using my gmail account too. Hence the password reset.

Long story short, I want my original account back and I want to stop getting his FB and itunes notifications. Any ideas?

You could reset his facebook password and write a note on his wall.
That would be a little mean though.

    First, change all your passwords.

Assuming he is genuine, send him an e-mail / facebook message explaining things and get him to change his accounts.
