I'm about to buy a suit online and it says this.

Does that mean they can be altered to whatever waist and length I want?

Usually means the hems are unfinished so you can have the length altered but not the waist.

Hmmm, thanks. It doesn't seem to give me an option to pick trouser size, only suit jacket.

Personally I would not recommend buying a suit online, the reason being that there is no chance to try on the jacket. The blocks used to make ready-to-wear jackets vary considerably between makers. Also you have no chance to check if the trousers fit in the waist, and these days it is almost impossible to get a different size of trouser than the 'standard' size allotted to that jacket. There is rarely any allowance in the seams to let the waist be taken out either.
