Did you put in the passport number? If so, the similar names shouldn't be a problem, especially if there is secondary ID with the other name.

The main objective of the airline is to stop tickets being sold on to third parties, not necessarily to get people's exact name. There is a secondary security / immigration issue, but unless those have solid grounds, I wouldn't worry too much.

You should contact the airline to amend the name. All you need is some jobsworth in the airport to decide the names aren't a close enough match and that's the trip ruined. Its an obvious change, so most airlines will make the amendment with no additional charge. Even Ryanair!
