    OK I'll answer this myself...
MODs if you're not happy please delete whole thread..

    http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/2742837

I went today to test drive this x-trail..

    Was shocked when I arrived..
    It is clearly described as
"Original Irish jeep in excellent condition throughout."

Every panel needed repair - scratches & dents, all four corners of bumpers had scuff marks.. Rear bumper was poorly resprayed at some stage..

Inside, seat belts were fusty, one heated seat didn't work neither did passenger side electric mirror.. It was dirty throughout

Brakes were scraping, handbrake wouldn't hold it, radiator was leaking coolant, oil leaking from sump, one alloy badly damaged.. Back of engine bay was badly scored where I reckon the engine was in/out... Timing chain was rattling..

Water ingress from drivers side wing/valance into engine bay after driving through puddle...

Really... This jeep is just about salvagable, probably €2K to be spent as a fixer up... It has a new NCT too, (must have been a Monday there)..

Can people not have some sort of accurate description ,
    Half day waisted..

Unless your very lucky a lot of Repo stuff is that rough.

The clue is in the name. It's a repo dealer. Obviously they will talk it up to get viewers. I'm sure they have plenty of other vehicles that are much cleaner than what you described. The previous owner of that probably decided to wreck it before it was reposessed/did sod all to look after it over the years. Just be glad you didn't part money!

    Yes..
I pointed out it was much rougher than the "excellent" condition described, the guy just said "that's fine, good-bye so". We beat a hasty retreat at that stage as he didn't seem to care and we'd waisted enough time..

Can anyone help me please. I purchased a car from a northern gent in asset disposals over 1 year ogo. just went to trade it in and found out that it has outstanding finance on it. Iv been watching the premises for 2 days now and the appear to have closed. I spoke to a lady in the adjoining business its a cash and carry. She says that the place appears to be prodominantly frequented by traveller car salesman type guys. Theres a guy called michael who i suspect maybe the proprieter. i need a name to try and track this fella. Can anybody help me or point me in the right direction. please help.

would it be an idea to follow up with cartell or motorcheck(or whatever company checked it) to ask them to contact the finance company to double check that there isn't an error on their side? i think it can be common for it to take a month or two to show as being clear of finance at times, just in case it is a simple mistake somewhere along the line

Are you jumping to conclusions extremely fast. Have you even discussed this with the person/ company you've purchased the car from?

I think that's why he wants to know where they are.

Pose as a potential customer from the links you were given and go view the car and find out that way.

i just find it very interesting that someone would start up an account on boards and start slating a business saying they got badly ripped off etc when they haven't even addressed the issue with the company/person in question. I dont understand why someone would come on here commenting without knowing/having all the facts.

I can only imagine that if the op is able to set up an account on boards and dig up old threads from 2011, that they could surely easily google search "asset disposals donedeal" to find a contact number and call them, instead of stalking their old premises for two days. it all just seems very strange to me.

In my opinion, his post should of went along the lines of asking people for asset disposals new business address or their contact number etc instead of saying he was ripped off by them, when clearly even the o.p has no idea if he was or not, considering he hasn't spoke to the company he was dealing with.

You're right, I hadn't looked so my bad. The information has been given already to OP in another thread so I guess it's best lock this one.

i bought the car over a year ago, finance is still live

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5 dingbat9

Guys, i have contacted the numbers on the recent adds, the guy i spoke to is not the guy a bought the car from. The seller was a northern gentleman.

Does buying a car with finance owed on it not qualify as being ripped off. Perhaps your right.

    thanks for your help.

If the car has finance outstanding it means that they sold a car that was not theirs to sell, and (as far as I know) you have no legal claim over the car if the rightful owners (in this case the finance company) come looking for it.

If you feel that this is the case then you may need to employ the services of a solicitor.

This. Unfortunately, it's a case of bad title. Much like being sold stolen property, even if you know nothing about it it is considered legal tough-titty.

ya if u purchase the vehicle privately, but not when you buy it from a motor trader.
