Thanks for all the help lads. Please don't be envious - I haven't been on a proper holiday for the last 6 years so I said I'd treat myself.

@Grizz & paolo, I'd be looking at plains game mainly in South Africa, but i'd be open to suggestions for anywhere. I plan on bringing my sako 75 .308 varmint rifle with me. She's topped off with a S&B Precision Hunter 3-12x50. I also have access to a Sako 75 hunter in 270 with a S&B 8x56 on top.

I can recommend http://www.mayogi-safaris.co.za/index.php. I should be heading out again next year around that time with a few friends from the US.
They're good outfitters & I enjoyed my hunt there last time. PM me if you want any more info.

Hey, I used to be Gixxerthou, name change due to motorbike change! Check these guys out, can't recommend them enough.

Outfitter's name is Isao Smyth, a real gent who will tailor your hunt to your needs, we wanted to walk and stalk plains game and we weren't disappointed. Saw plenty of animals in tough conditions. Kwazulu Natal state offers heavy cover and difficult shooting mostly from sticks. We all brought .270's and 130g ballistic tips, I would advise your .308 would be a safer option due to the amount of grass you are expected to shoot through but whatever your comfortable with is fine. Their prices for trophies such as Wilderbeest and Kudo are quite cheap in comparison to other areas we inquired about and we hunted Impala, Springbok, Duiker, Warthog, Blesbuck and Baboons were free :) Accommodation and food were excellent and the whole week was very relaxed. Isao also has hunting in the Freestate which is more open planes and less cover if that's what your after.

Isao has his own taxidermy business so his mounting fees are very reasonable, He looks after all the shipping documents so all you do is wait, will take 6-9 months to have your trophies home and you don't have to pay until they are ready to be delivered.

Have been over on a normal safari and loved it, but a great video to watch is Louis Theroux "African Hunting Holiday" he is quite sarcastic in it, but may give you some tips

Its a documentary called "African Hunting Holiday" I assure you it is representative of African game hunting.

Whilst it is very much taking the piss out of Bible belt Americans going over there to hunt, there is some good pointers in it, location, experience and equipment needed, costs, taxidermy, etc
