Went onto FAQ because I wasn't sure where to post this so I got directed here, please don't lock because of off-topic
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056497843

So yeah, I have an inquiry about post office depot's and receiving mail when you don't want it sent to your address for private reasons.
To elaborate, I'm ordering fancy glass-wear from amsterdam, to Ireland, for my girlfriend. I live with the parents and I'd rather not have it delivered to my house, or anybody's house for the reason they may get the wrong impression.

    So.. i found this:
    http://www.elevatedloc.com/cfool/TravelResources/MailAbroad.html#Short
Forget the big wall of text but scroll down to the end, "Poste Restante"
Could I request poste restante on this (as in use poste restante address thing) and collect it in the PO depot? (closest to me is in maynooth I think)
Anyone with experience in this or know-how please help, I've about 120 euro worth of glass-wear the birthday is coming soon.
    Hope you guys understand!
    :o

Just give a family member or friend's address, or a work address or even a neighbour's address.

    :(
I've already considered this + many other things, but I'd rather not mix up my family or my workplace with my private life (2nd year DCU no workplace), even if it's just a box, somebody could open it.

I've no friends (lol) that I can send it to, most college friends live in apartments or on college grounds and sending it there wouldn't be fair on them.
The only friend that lives on his own is aggressively against any form, and he'd smash it. One of "Those" friends.

Post Restante doesn't apply to you as you've a permanent address in the state.

An Post do operate the facility at company staffed offices, basically the main office in large towns and GPO, but in my time it only applied to non national temporary visitors to the country.

Sure we understand. You want to import 129 quid's worth of bongs , waterfalls, etc from The Netherlands but want us and your parents to think it's Swavorski crystals or somesuch. ;)

To use An Post's redirect, PO Box or Poste Restante facilities, you'll need id, utility bills, birth cert etc afaik, just as you would for a savings account there.

What do you recommend I do? I can get these, ID, (utility bills? I do not own the house), birth-certs, etc.
As soccerc said above as I have a permanent address, Poste restante does not apply to me but what's stopping be from saying that I have a permanent address but do not live there? As in the house is vacant and I'm travelling so sending it here cuts out the middle process of sending it to the house just to be sent back to the post office depot because nobody was able to sign it off? I've been thinking about this alot if you haven't noticed. :D
Or is there any other process I can do?
God damn, why can't we just have PO in our country like other countries?

Did you check this in detail? It may help under " redirection".

"Mail-minder" seems like the closest thing to what I want, however 35 euro seems alot just for 4 weeks of minding my mail, also seems a bit dodgy..
    Anybody have any other ideas?

Mail minder and re-direction apply to households, not individuals, though some discretion can be applied.

Anyone can have a PO Box but the annual fee is high.

If there is no one at the delivery address you will get a docket to pick it up at the delivery office and it will be held there for 16 working days free of charge.

There are threads on here condemning delivery staff for 'bending' the rules trying to accomodate customers.

FWIW, the item is the property of the sender until such time as it's delivered so the recipients 'nod and wink' arrangement should have no standing and rightly so.

We do. It's a payable service just like in any other country.

There ya go... or, maybe a bit simpler than having to wait for the postman, call customer care/your local office, they'll tell your postman to hold the package for ya. I cant remember if you'll have to pay for it or not though
