Ballroom Dancing

    Hello all :)

I've searched for ballroom dancing within the whole Sports area, and I'm quite suprised not to find any thread about this wonderful sport. Hence, this is our new ballroom dancing thread!

In Germany it is quite common for parents to send their kids at least once to the dance school. To be honest, in most cases the kids stop dancing after their first 5-9 lessons. Fortunately, some of them stay for many years. For example, I'm doing this sport since 2006 and it is one of my greatest passions. My favourite dance is Jive.

What is the attitude of Irish people towards ballroom dancing (especially around 18-22)? Is it quite common? Or unusual? I'm going to live and work a few months in Ireland and I would really like to find a place to dance (and of course someone to dance with!!!).

Enough about me and my personal questions: What is your favourite dance? And why do you like it? Do you want to share some useful tips or are you just looking for a dance partner...?

    Yours Deveras

Ballroom dancing (in a serious sports level) is a minority activity in Ireland (while social dancing is quite popular across the whole country) - but that said there are schools that focus on the dancesport aspect and focus on the developement of technique, stamina, and competitive quality - in both standard ballroom and latin. Those schools send couples to compete internationally all around the world and they seem to do very well. The greater number of opportunities seem to be focused around Dublin which is natural when you think that a third of the country's population is in that small area.

There are a few websites out there specifically on developing the sport side of dance talent as you mentioned in the areas of ballroom and latin dancing in Dublin, so don't give up seraching.

But if you need any further details send me a PM and I can give specifics.

    Hi
I'd love to see a ballroom forum. I was very disappointed when I first joined and there was no specific form for ballroom. I've started dancing the last 6 months, picking it up very quickly as I've done other forms of dance. I'm in Kilkenny would love to meet up with others for an evening of dancing but because I don't have a dance partner feel a bit weird turning up by my lonesome:( Would eventually like to compete currently doing my first Pro Am in about 2 weeks, wish me luck:)
