Swapping optical drives in Dell XPS Laptops

    Hi Folks,

Quick question. I have an unused Dell XPS M1530 Laptop (long story) which has a blu-ray drive.

My current laptop is a Dell Studio XPS 1647, which I'm doing a small bit of upgrading on now that my HDD recently failed (I bought a 256gb SSD, up to 8GB of RAM). However, the thought crossed my mind of swapping the optiacal drives in each laptop. Is this possible? Both are slot loading rather than a drawar fwiw.

    Thanks

Not being familiar with those two models, probably. Most laptop optical drives are secured with a single screw from the base of the laptop. Remove both drives and compare connectors. You may need to swap the bracket the screw goes into. On a tray loader its handy to eject first before removing the screw to have something to pull gently, you'll have to think of something else for slot loaders, maybe the bracket is visible ? You may need to exchange bezels too.
