Hey guys, I'm about to upgrade my computer in the next few days, and I've had 3 case fans installed into my computer, (just bear with me) they have recently stopped working and I have only decided to properly investigate now. I went fiddling with my Xigmatek monocool fan controller and I determined that it was broke, so I removed it and used the splitter cable from it to plug my 3 case fans directly into my motherboard.

This is where things get really, really weird. When I booted my pc back up my cpu fan went completely mental going about 5600rpm and my boot screen changed from Packard bell to Acer???

I've got no idea what I did wrong, but here is my motherboard and pc specs.

    CPU: Intel Core2 Quad Q8300 @ 2.5ghz (stock fan)
    motherboard: Packard Bell EG43M
    case: Xigmatek Midgard I
    PSU: 550w OCZ 80+ silver.
    RAM: 5GB DDR2
    GPU: ATI Radeon HD 5850

2 of the 3 case fans came with it and one of them is a cheap 80mm fan.

    Halp :(
