    Hi all,

I'm looking at either a avensis 1.6 petrol or passat diesel both around 7k i do 10k max per year.

What would you choose? heard passat's are V expensive to repair when they go wrong.

1.6 petrol not as good/fast as the diesel but less of a chance of something going wrong.

    cheers

Is the Avensis newer with less miles?

Same age 45k miles petrol vs 85k miles diesel

10k miles isn't really diesel territory, the Avensis wouldn't be too heavy on petrol either, in saying that if it was a 1.9 Passat as opposed to a 2.0 engined one I'd be thinking the Passat mightn't be a bad buy if they're the same money.

But not being a bad buy isn't exactly answering your question :pac:

You are just wasting money paying a premium for a diesel if only doing 10k miles a year. You will never see the return at the pump and even if you did it could be erased by an expensive failure such as a DPF, DMF, turbo or injector.

If the 1.6 petrol Avensis is not lively enough for you then look for a 1.8 petrol, similar mpg and suits the car more than the 1.6 petrol. Most 1.8 Avensis are also higher spec.

I'd also look at the Mazda 6:

Another vote for the Mazda 6. Very good car. Avoid their diesel though
