They always charged 21% vat when purchases were delivered to Ireland. Despite their promotion, they can't actually charge 17.5% VAT as that would be illegal. I imagine they just adjusted their prices accordingly. E.g. A product that cost €121 before this promotion would now cost €117.50. The VAT rate would be the same on both but they've lowered the prices to what they would be if they applied the cheaper rate of vat.

From the order page when you enter the discount code:

"VAT equivalent of 17.5% for UK customers, for other VAT zones discount will be 2.083% of total order price. Shipping by DPD 2 day or Next Day, timed and Saturday services not covered. Discount and free shipping will be displayed on the confirmation page."

Put in the order guys, as my hunch is if enough peeps from the republic order, they may introduce free shipping for us.

Not quite, no EU based/non-Irish company has to charge Irish VAT if their annual turnover does not exceed a certain amount, €35k, so there are plenty of smaller retailers that will charge their home country VAT rates. The big guys like Amazon register for Irish VAT so will auto adjust their rates when posting to Ireland.

And OCUK exceed that hence why they pay the irish vat rate. Regardless, the point I was making was that they can't just decide what vat rate they want to apply. So their promotion is just modifying their prices to what they would be if they applied the 17.5% rate.

This offer enticed me to see how much all the parts I had picked out on HWVS would cost on Overclockers, as I'm buying a build today.. Let me tell you, everything was more expensive. Even in cases where I was forced to substitute for similar parts, I was paying a huge amount more than I would on HWVS. I don't think the free shipping or very small discount would cancel out the higher prices compared to HWVS tbh.

Why oh why oh why can't some internet based companies have a very simple "in stock" or "out of stock" system in place?

Half of my order is out of stock, even though it showed as "in stock" when I purchased, otherwise I couldn't have purchased it right?

It's surely a very simple thing to show if goods are in stock or out of stock. Pathetic excuses of companies say goods are in stock, take your money and then e-mail you to say oh sorry they are not actually in stock, will you wait?

    Grrrrr:mad:

Are they allowed do that? I was always under the impression they cannot charge until ready to ship?
