*PROBLEM, PLEASE HELP!* HP laptop won't detect my Eircom router.

    Hi guys :)
I'm having a seriously frustrating issue with my new laptop; my router isn't being picked up. The laptop is detecting other wireless networks which is quite odd, just not mine? This is leading me to believe that it's the router and not the laptop being at fault..

Any help at all would be appreciated! Cheers.
    -Adam.

Additional notes; the router is one of the newer models, not sure what the exact model is. Will post when I know.
    Running on Windows 7.
Laptop model = HP Pavillion G-Series

guessing you tried the off/on thing with the router if so you could run a driver checker program to see if your missing any wifi drivers although if you can see other connections its unlikely thats the issue but you never know

Have you tried inputting the connection details manually? Do you have another device to check if the router is broadcasting its network name, like an android phone etc....

What's confusing me is that the network is being picked up on stuff like my iTouch, phone, Xbox, etc. That's what has me so confused. It's only the laptop that won't pick it up? I'm at a loss really..
Edit; I have previously tried manually inputting the connection details but to no avail.

I recently bought a new HP and no problems.

I had with a old laptop.I reset the router and that fixed it

make sure you have your account details from your ISP to reenter password etc

I honestly don't know what the craic is at all, I've reset the router endless amounts of times. Like I said above, it's only the laptop that isn't picking up the router.

Did you try logging into the router and changing the channel that its broadcasting on.

Its best to do this on a computer connected to the router with an ethernet connection.

To do this type the address of your router into the address bar of your browser usually
    http://192.168.1.254/

    Password should be broadband1
Go to wireless settings (probably under advanced) you should be able to find a channel between 1 and 13 change it, it may be on Auto if it is change it to any number, save the settings and restart the router.

If you cannot detect the network still try a different channel.

You can download a program called netstumbler which will scan for wireless networks and tell you what channel they are being broadcast on, if you use this set your router to a channel that is free and the channel beside it is free if possible.

did you try connecting direct with the ethernet cable ? or maybe switching all other devices and then seeing if anything pops up , what do eircom say , did you ask them ?

Have seen this with a friends laptop once. Possibly caused by a corrupt (badly configured) connection profile for the router on your laptop.

    2 Ways of checking this.

    1. is to talk you through finding the profile on your laptop. I don't have details to hand right now.

    2. May be easier just to change SSID (broadcast name) for your wifi on the router. May be just add a 2 to the end of it. I'd hope laptop will pick it up then.

Hi, have you tried resetting your network adapter?
Control Panel > Network and Sharing Centre > Change adapter settings
Right click on the adapter and press disable. Wait 20 seconds and right click again and enable.
    Good luck

None of this is working at all folks. Tempted to just bring it back and exchange it because the stress it's giving me just isn't worth it..

So your router does work because other devices can connect to it, but your laptop also works because it detects other networks. The only other thing i can think of is someone else had that problem on here and changing the channel sorted it. Log onto your router by connecting to it with an ethernet cable, type in the routers ip in the address bar of your internet explorer to get to its log on screen. Check the bottom of your router to find out the username and password. Have a look through the menus until you find a setting to change the wifi channel.

What exactly will that do? I don't want to create problems for the other devices either, y'know?

I don't have a Windows laptop in front of me at the moment but I had a similar problem with someone at work.

If you go into control panel and select something like advanced settings you get a list of all the networks you have ever connected to. Go find your router, it might be there more than once. Delete all those connections.

The guy at work just had some conflict there. You might need to restart everything before that takes effect. I can't remember.

    Reconnect to the router.

    Hope this helps.

It shouldnt, the other devices should auto adjust to that channel.

Completely forgot about this thread. Anyway, got the problem solved fairly handily. Turns out the laptop blocked the router somehow.. One of my IT head friends sorted it. Cheers for all your help. Thread closed.

    All Zyxel routers i'm guessing?

Ring eircom and ask for a new router, known problem with a certain type of Zyxel router.

I bet it connects perfectly, just when you try to go to web pages it times out?

i'm no techy, just know how i fixed my own.

    No bother.

Ignore them when they send they'll send someone out to have a look or that, its pointless.

I''ve tried everything, i simply changed back to an old Netopia router i had lying around and its worked perfectly ever since.

Best of luck with your fix!

I also have a Zyxel router, and I'm experiencing a similar problem on a new PC I got.

Did Eircom send out a new, non-Zyxel router? I will ring them later, but wanted to get advice here before I do.
