Right folks, I'm in my mid 20's and want to buy a decent car for about €6k-€9k.

Something that will impress. I don't care if it sounds materialistic, but I want to splash out a wee bit before I have to settle down with the old family wagon etc. Have driven ****boxes up to now so want to treat yself somewhat.

On the list are BMW 3 series, Audi's, VW etc. Wouldnt mind a 4x4 either.

    Can anyone advise??

If that's the plan then you need to start off by deciding who you want to impress. Any of the cars you mentioned will impress certain circles but leave others unmoved or, worse, contemptous. My advice is to get out there and drive a broad range of cars, find out what does it for you, and buy that. Impressing others is paradoxical - the more you try, the less you succeed.

320td compact would be an interesting alternative.
Very underrated, not obvious car, 150hp so nippy too.

Might be able to import a BMW e31 (840 or 850) from the UK, sell it for possible profit when ready for the wagon. Plenty of fast wagons around these days incidentally.

3series won't impress anyone LOL. At least I don't think so. Who really gives a ***k who you impress anyway. Get what you like, drive it.

I love the 8 series but when you factor in VRT and collection costs its not worth it, A more modern and better Mercedes CL will fit the bill if you do not mind the tax and fuel bills, a lot of car for the money.
