Well, this thread is an experiment. It may become a repository for brilliant little nuggets of computing goodness, or it may fall on its face. Let's see. :D

Today I found out that there is a new firmware for the vodafone router. I had to reset mine about once every other day. Hoping this one will be better.

Dud is a program that does absolutely nothing.

Whenever you have a troublesome/annoying program that gets invoked on startup or by another program replace its binary with dud.exe and rename it back to the what the original binary was called. No more annoying program.

Remember the first step is always to try turning it off and on again.

For some "users" the "turn it off leave it off" option is the only one.

Maybe obvious to everyone here but ...

1./ Find your processor website to check for updates automatically ... like for example http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/

    and

2./ Find your graphic driver website to update manually ... example http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

and choose the automatic update options.

I went years before I realised that Microsoft Windows will do this automatically for you but the hardware side needs a bit of help from you.

I'd like to try that, I think I may suffer from this bit of text.
It's even possible that you're staying up too late because of your computer. You could use f.lux because it makes you sleep better, or you could just use it just because it makes your computer look better.

The only problem is I calibrate my monitors for Photoshop, I'm guessing this kind of rules out the use of flux??

I find AlternativeTO very handy. Basically you put in a program, say for example Internet Explorer and it will list alternative browsers you may like, weighted by user opinion!
Ever found a file that you havn't a clue what to open in? FileEXT is a file extension database which actually covers most possible types the file could be, with a link to the program(s) to open them.

flux changes the colour temperature of your monitor based on the time of day at your GPS location.

I haven't tried it in a multi-display set-up yet (flux one display but not others) but it would seem at this stage that it won't work for you which is a shame as it really is a wonderful piece of software, unobtrusive but doing what it says on the tin. A great little find.

You can click in the taskpane and select "disable for 1 hour" when you're doing colour-sensitive work. Flux is a godsend, my eyes used to get very tired about the 4PM mark, and now they don't anymore.

I like Slickrun. It attaches to a keyboard shortcut, and you can define "magicwords" that run what you want. For example, I have one magicword that allows me to type Win-Z, d,hello - this does a Google definition search for the term "hello".
