Does anyone else suffer a strange defaulting to the google.ie homepage when using FF (currently using 3.6.24) ? I can have the google search results page open and without warning the it goes to the home page thus loosing whatever I had typed in to the search window. Sometimes when this happens there is no way to go back a page. Very strange.

Sounds to me like the Google auto suggest is messing up, try turning it off and seeing if it fixes the problem. Also I'm not sure if it is intentional to be sticking to 3.6 but Firefox is currently many revisions above that version now.
Clearing the cache and history may help either, if Google are using old cached JavaScript code it could be causing the issue
