Clutch slipping after 12k miles

    Hi there,

I'm just looking for your opinion on this issue please.

    I'm driving a remapped Golf GTI 1.8T (195BHP~ / 225ft/lbs ~)

When I initially got the car remapped at 88k miles, the originlal clutch crapped itself on the Dyno, so I had to get a new clutch ("LUK" branded).

This morning I noticed that the clutch is ever so slightly slipping when hitting boost.

There's 100k on the car now, so that's 12k miles on the clutch.

Could this be the clucth on the way out AGAIN!?!?

Also worth mentioning is that the clutch cylinder is fairly knackered - could a knackered clutch cylinder cause slippage? .. the biting point is quite high also.

    Any opinions comments/opinions appreciated.

Normal behaviour from a chipped VW

Depending on how your driving, then yes the clutch could be knackered. The only way to confirm this is to make a warranty claim against LUK, you will need to get the mechanic to replace the clutch and give a full report, milage fitted at, failed at, car type, chassis number etc. Then you need to give this to the motor factor who supplied the kit and they sent it off. This process can take a few weeks, bur once LUK check the clutch they can tell if it failed from poor fitting, manufacture or driving style.

If you pass the claim, then it costs you nothing, however if you don't pass the claim, then you pay for the new clutch kit and labour. You will need to pay these up front anyway and will be refunded should warranty pass.

No it's not, it happens sometimes on remapped diesels if the clutch is worn.
I put 50k miles on a "chipped" 1.8t leon with zero clutch slip.

Non-sense,i put 17k on a 'chipped' VW before i sold it and it was still going strong last time i checked.

Cheers for the replies. Was just out driving again there and clutch seems fine

I think i was just a bit paranoid after the last clutch went and following and incident with an s2000 at the lights last night where we both launched like 2 bats out of hell :-D

I was getting a bit of wheel spin in 2nd this morning as it was wet (as you do with 225ftlbs + FWD) so paranoia ensued and i thought oh my God my clutch must be slipping!

Depends on how 'spirited' your driving is and on a OEM replacement clutch, 12k isn't beyond the realms of possibility.

Its possible to burn out a clutch in a matter of minutes in any car

Doing drag races will kill a clutch. Some drivers go through clutches like wipers, others never go from the original. When the clutch is removed it's usually obvious what caused it to fail.

Ah yeah, i don't make a habbit of it, hence the ensuing paranoia of thinking I burnt out my clutch - it was just one of those moments where you knew it had to be done. 2 lanes, traffic lights and an empty dual carriage way ahead :-D

Was it just the clutch disk that was replaced or a full kit?

When you tune a car the clutch the factory clutch is usually the next weakest link so depending on your driving style it is possible to wear it in 12k.
