Oovo for LG Optimus (or other video chat)

I'm trying to find some program that will allow video chat between my cheapo android tablet and an LC Optimus Black, both running Android 2.2

The only one available for the tablet that I've found is Oovoo but for some reason this program is not available in the market on the phone.

What does anyone else use for video chat (Skype video is not available on either device)?

Can you rip the .apk from the tablet and install it on the phone that way ?

Just installed Skype on Archos 35 Home Connect which has no official market and is running 2.2. When I first started Skype it said that the Archos was not compatible but it works a treat.
I got it through http://www.1mobile.com/app/market/ which is an alternative market. If you can get it there give it a go. If not just google the Skype apk and install that

I've no idea where the apk file goes to when I download from the market. Is there a standard location or some sort of search program? Also the phone is not rooted (it's not mine and there's no chance of me being allowed do it again after last time!) - can I still install apk files not directly from the market?

Skype is available on the market for both the phone and tablet but there's no video chat support on either device.

If your tablet is rooted you can rip from that.
You can sideload apps on the non rooted phone no problem.

    Check your tablet in data/app/.

If you can get it on both phone and tablet in the market then there should be no issue.
    See here for some FAQ

Are you sure you have enabled Video calling in the settings on each device? It should be available if you are running 2.1 or above

Samsung Google Nexus S, HTC Desire S, Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo, Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro, HTC Thunderbolt

Don't have any of those devices and my tablet's camera is front facing.

The FAQ you linked lists the few devices which support video chat in skype and specifies that only rear-facing cameras can be used. Neither applies to my tablet.

I Dont have any of those either and Skype works no problem for me on HTC Desire (rear Camera only) and Archos 35 Home Connect (an alarm clock/radio) with front only VGA camera. We plan to use Skype as a baby monitor on the Archos and will be able to see the video feed on my phone or wifes phone (HTC Legend - works on that too although not listed on Skype site) or our PC downstairs

Once you are logged in to Skype on the tablet or phone go to settings and can you select 'Enable Video Calling' ?

Once I select yes to that I could make and receive video calls

    See the FAQ here

I was able to switch that on on the phone but the option doesn't exist on the tablet unfortunately even though it's the same skype version

Ah OK - looks like its a non runner so as Tablet not going to work

    Have you tried
    Tango
    Fring
    Qik

all worth a go and hopefully one will work

Also - what about Google + as I know that now supports video chat from mobile but I think minimum specs are Android 2.3 and front facing camera

Tango and qik are not available on the tablet and fringe bombs out as soon as I make or receive a call. Not gonna happen I'm afraid :(

Try getting the apk for Tango or Qik or even download the 1Mobile market on the Tablet and get it there
    Never give up!
