First car suggestions

Hi, would like to get straight to the point. After 4TA, I'll be getting a car. (In 3rd year right now). I want to know if any of these would be good for first cars:

    1. Toyota Supra Non-Turbo
    2. Audi S4 B7
    3. Audi TT
    4. BMW 335i
    5. Mercedes-Benz SL500 R129 or newer
    6. VW Scirocco
    7. Nissan Skyline 350GT Coupe

I was thinking of learning on my mom's 98 corolla sedan over TY which has a manual transmission which brings me to my next question:

    - Which is better? Auto or stick shift?

Also, I'm kinda leaning towards either the TT or the Non-turbo Supra. I won't be racing so I won't put any tunes on the Supra except maybe a kit or something I'm not sure. I love coupes or sport sedans but I hate any type of hatchback. (Except the Scirocco IMO that looks nice)

I googled similar questions but most of them had stuff about insurance and other costs like maintenance, etc. but that's in the US and I'm not sure about how much it would be here.

1 more Q: is it absolutely necessary to get a first car with less horses than 200? My friend keeps repeatedly telling me that it's vital. And I wanted an opinion from an experienced driver not a japanese car fanboy because I'm somewhat hesitant in buying a Japanese car.

    So... Any suggestions? Thanks.

Btw, I won't be doing any racing of any kind.

I was going to assume you had to be in the US until you said you weren't.

Not one of those cars is insurable on a learner permit in Ireland. Legally you can extract a quote for them but you could actually be looking at five figures... high four, anyway.

Learn in a car with below 70bhp like everyone else does.

Damn, so does that mean I'll have to wait until I'm 18? And I'll be learning on my moms 98 corolla like I said

Wow. Dunno whether to take this thread seriously or not

You've no chance of getting on any of those cars listed. It cost over two grand as it is for a young male to go on a 1.0L micra.

Even on a full licence at 18 I'd imagine you'd be looking at 3,000 to 4,000 to insure even the lowest spec of those. You won't get a genuine, unforced quote on most of them until you're 25+ with an NCB.

So what do you recommend I buy when the right time comes?

Once you've a full licence, anything under 100bhp and not in a stereotype "scumbag class" (e.g. not Japanese and white).

Like....? I can't think of a car with <100bhp. Maybe just around like 120-150

    http://www.driving.ie/usedcars/

    Engine Size - Maximum - select 1.6L

That'll give you a decent indication...

why do you need a lot of horsies ?

most cars will reach the maximum speed limit of 120KM/H and stay there ... you shouldn't need anymore than that unless your going to the track which you really shouldn't in your own car for the sake of the car itself.

you would be looking at a 1.2 or 1.4 max if you ask me. 1.4 being the absolute max !
