Not sure if there's already a thread on this, but can anyone recommend a camera that can be attached to a cycling helmet. I've seen a few on the sportives i've done and it would be great to capture some memories for next year. Thanks

What's your budget? There are a few options out there. I was looking to buy one and did a bit of research.

    Gopro hd hero 1 & 2
    Contour Roam
    TachyonHD
    Dogsportcam
    BulletHD
    Camsports evo hd
    Epic stealth cameras
and there are also many more.

I went for the lightest-cheapest combo, which is the Dogsportcam at 31grams. I didn't go for a 1080p camera as I can't see any benefit for full hd videos on these cameras (maybe apart from gopro hero 2, but that's crazy money). Hope that helps a bit.

Thanks astram, i had browsed through the Gopro options and even though they are pricier than the others there are more functions available, around the e100 mark is my budget, i will check out the others on your list and see whats out there, thanks for all the replies guys.

What do you guys think of this?

    http://www.dealextreme.com/p/5-0mp-waterproof-wide-angle-sports-car-camcorder-w-2-led-red-laser-hdmi-tf-slot-black-110098

It could be used for road and mtb spins. Night-vision, love-u-longtime 2.5 hours, vibration hint (?). Built-in battery looks like a weak point to me: can't replace it when it eventually deteriorates. Also, there were no user-reviews on the DX website. Maybe a (tried and tested) Hero GoPro would be better value if you consider quality/longevity etc..

Ive a GoPro HD Hero, I've used it mountainbiking before and find it really good. Works well when going in and out of the shade and adjusts to the different light well. You can also get loads of different add ons so you can attach it up to your seatpost, handlebars etc.

They're quite pricey in Ireland though, I got a friend to pick mine up in the US which cut down the price by well over 2/3.

There are loads of different cameras out there though which are a good bit cheaper, but might be limited in what you can use them for other than a straight forward helmet mount. A friend uses the Contour and says its excellent, think it shoots in HD as well.

Get a GoPro HD. I have one and love it. One note however, if you want to use it on Irish roads, the vibration is somthing to consider. It can be a bit shakey if not really REALLY tight. Here's a clip I made from last years Etape du Tour 40km descent off the Galibier using the GoPro connected to the helmet...

Jeez lalorm!!!!! My lunch nearly made a re-appearance watching that, the whole your-bike-goes-where-your-eyes-look thingy kept coming into my head, I was practically shouting "WATCH THE ROAD!!!" for the full 10 minutes, aaaaaaagggghhhhh!!!!!! Awesome descent by you though, your arms must've been like jelly afterwards.....
    Am still giddy!

I wanted to go faster in places, but didn't trust where some riders would move to on the road. 40km kills your triceps and thumbs!!:D but the view and the rush make up for it.
Here's another hairy descent off the Lzoard...

Confirms what I always said about why I would never have made much of a cyclist - even if I had the legs to get up a hill I wouldn't have had the b*lls to come down the other side. Great video

I recently bought (Christmas present) a ContourRoam and love it. It's much more compact and unobtrusive than the GoPro, and does, in my opinion, similar quality videos. It's 1080p HD, is waterproof (up to 1m), has nice night time performance (which was important for me). I still couldn't shoot anything meaningful with it, although I enjoy filming the odd commute, when I anticipate it will be nice (nice weather or different route, etc.). Here is a small bit I posted on Vimeo to show the night time performance:

I bought it from this ad, which at the time was doing free worldwide delivery, which worked out at a total of 140€ if I remember correctly. That's a bargain for such a product.
