A weird obsession

Does anyone else get fixated on the dates (by year) tv shows were produced? If I'm watching something over 10 years old I end up watching the credits roll to see what date that programme was made. Its especially difficult on certain US shows that don't always show the date at the end. I've spend ridiculous amounts of time on IMDb and similar sites trying to track down dates etc. Does this qualify as an OCD or simply 'trainspotting'.

Yanks don't use roman numerics- they never have and the Brits stopped using them on tv shows in the 90s.

OCD? hmm how is it impending on your daily life or relationships with others, do you have any control over this ritual or is it just an interest.

It's a fascination over something banal, we all av em.

    Case closed.

I am afflicted with this obsession too it drives the other half crazy when I tell her a what year the movie/tv show was made even without looking at the credits.

"One of us, one of us *gobble gobble*". Name the year the quote from that film was released?!

My obsession is more with tv shows primarily. I need to know the date of a show so I can then align it with what age I was when the programme was initially broadcast and compare it what I was watching at that time. If that makes sense?

I have a similar thing with dates of birth. No idea why, but I dislike when people younger than I are more successful.

This is not the best example, but I remember when Amy Winehouse first became well known around 2007 and everyone was saying what a Big Deal she was and I was like 'wow that girl looks my age, what does that say about me if she's my age and she's already achieved her goal?' Quickly googled her, relieved that she was 3 years older therefore I had nothing to worry about.

Even these days when I become friends with someone on facebook I like to compare myself to them in very superficial terms, and if they're more successful than me I can dismiss it if they're a bit older because I can 'catch up'.

Is my hour up yet? Thanks for listening.

One of my mates has the same habit as you. He's compelled to find out people's ages and compare their place in life/status/success etc with his own (or lack of). He does it more so with people in the same profession as him that he reads about in the papers or online.

I thought that was one of the points of boards? To type and create a post for many reasons including getting something off one's system? You're a 'thanks' whore and a troll.

Well I hope in 2 and a half years you're not level pegging with her

I usually have a need to know what else actors/actresses have been in, and a small list of the people they've worked with in the past (directors, other performers etc).
What's worse is, I don't even go into depth. It makes me look like a movie/tv nerd to my friends, but once up against someone that properly knows their stuff, I pale in comparison

Nope on both accounts. You just can't take a ribbing. Eh, old chap? <nudges>.

Hmm. Maybe I'm just cutting too close to the bone with your "weird obsession".

I'm the same, though for me it's probably part of being a media anorak.

Some older BBC shows don't have copyright dates in the credits... there's one for ya. :p
