Using Sky+ Box on regular subscription

    Hi all,

I have a regular Sky subscription and was using my DVD recorder to pause/rewind TV but the DVD recorder died recently.
Question is, if I get myself a Sky+ box on ebay (or wherever) will I be able to perform basic features such as pause/rewind while
    1) only having a single feed into the box
    2) keeping my existing subscription to Sky

I know I won't be able to watch and record different channels without two feeds but for what I need, a Sky+ box is a lot cheaper to buy than a DVD Recorder as far as I can see...

    Cheers.

You'll need to phone Sky and ask them to transfer your card to the Sky+ box. There's no extra charge for doing so. HD boxes can be run on one feed with the usual caveats but I hear the Sky+ can be finicky about it.

Yes you would, once you call Sky to pair the box. You'd be so much better off though, with a 2nd cable.

I tested a Sky+ box with one cable before running the second cable and it doesn't like not having the second cable!

If you change channel or have something set to record it can report "no signal" as it tries to use the second (non existent) input, and the only way to get it to right itself is to swap the cable, which only keeps it happy until next time.

A run of cable + an LNB is under €30 so it's well worth doing it right.

Recent Sky HD boxes have an installer option for a single feed. It's not ideal, but it is workable - without any need to swap cables.
