Any advice available for the above issue. I was on a three hour spin yesterday. I could barely change gear towards the end with numb fingers!

Could well be related to your position on the bike affecting the ulnar nerve.

Happened to a neighbour of mine a couple of years ago. He fixed his numb hands by moving the saddle forward by 1cm but you're probably better off getting a proper bike fitting since it could be triggered by a lot of subtle over stretching.

Shortening the stem may also be an option when you can't move the saddle any further. Make sure the stem change is gradual as you'd need to adjust to the sharper steering. And bike-fitting expert should be able to confirm this, I'd go there before making any changes. The weather could well be the reason.

I was getting numbness too, not that numb I couldn't change my gears, but still unpleasant - on the side of the palm. Moved saddle, shortened stem, the numbness has lessened considerably, still got to shorten the stem 10mm more.

It's possible that your core is not warm. Blood will be diverted from your extremities to your core until it is warm enough, when it is, it will flow back to your hands and feet. Try an extra base layer .

Thanks folks. i went to a bike shop in april and have been fitted/ setup. a shorter stem was fitted and the saddle was raised. the guy said the optimum setup required a stem a bit shorter than he fitted which i havent followed up on. he also raised the saddle considerably. it should be possible to move the seat forward 10mm. a friend of mine also recommended wrist supports to keep the wrists straight!
